Californians - what's the deal with this Proposition 62?
Is it a good idea? I hadn't actually heard about it until recently. Apparently, there's one in Washington State too.

Personally, I like the idea of open primaries - but I'm a little bit skeptical that a simple two-round race is a good idea. I think an open primary with IRV would be better. And I also worry that too many candidates would clutter the ballot. Maybe they should have party primaries and something like the top 3 or 4 finishers in the party get to be on the Open Primary ballot?

How are you going to vote? (FYI, I'm not a Californian - just curious)

1. Vote NO on Prop. 62
It mandates that only two candidates will show up on a general election ballot for any office. That would make it so that there could be two Republicans, for example, as the ONLY choices in the general election.

3. official dem recommendation is no
I think this one has been in effect before, and caused some corruption, in Ca as well as in Louisiana. Stuff like republicans getting together and picking the weakest democratic candidate, and all voting for that person in a bloc. You should take a look see at the official Ca Democratic party recommendations for ballot props if you can. These are well researched and can be trusted most of the time. If you can get one that shows how other parties and organizations voted on each one, it is more interesting. Sometimes the Green party has some interesting differences on propositions. The only group I saw in favor of prop 62 was Chamber of Commerce, so that gives you an idea.
It sounds good, but is misleading, as are many of the props.
