Happenings in East Tennessee
I'm in a rural, East Tennessee community. It's the type of area where I picture everyone carrying their hand guns into church, two or three times a week.

Anyway, the Kerry/Edwards campaign enjoys much more visibility than Vice-President Gore's campaign did in 2000. It's been heartening to see so many yard signs, bumper stickers, etc.

Tonight, I'm driving home from work, when I see that one of the Kerry 4 x 8 signs has been vandalized. Basically, the middle was torn right out of it. Someone has replaced the destroyed part, with another sign hanging in the gaping wound that reads, "Let them be judged by the things they do". Bravo!, I thought.

1. Same thing in West Tennessee.
I'm glad to hear it is like that out your way, too. Just running a few quick errands I came across three Kerry bumper stickers and countless yard signs. Never have I seen so many in this area. We still have our share of Bush stuff, but I don't think our state is going to be quite as deep of red this time around.

and saw my first bumper stickers and signs today: one I Love My Country/Bush Cheney and three Kerry Edwards plus 7 yard signs.

I haven't seen anything else. I think people are still traumatized from 2000 and I also think they are fearful.

I did talk to a gentleman who was working very hard in the Jewish community. He says there will be 11,500 votes for Kerry from the condo country he is woking in to get out the vote. He also is renting a trolley, will drive it all over Nov 1 an 2 covered with John Kerry signs.

He and others are still angry that over 3000 votes went to Buchanan on the butterfly ballot.

Oh...and people are seeking Suskin's NYT magazine article. I keep giving out the url.

5. I grew up in Hawkins Co and people were never mean like that
stupid, but not mean. Thanks george for making people mean and nasty.
I was up there last week and saw more KE signs than I could have ever imagined.
The gay marriage thing is playing big there though
