What's the 'ignore' feature

And what is it used for ? I've never even heard about this before five minutes ago , but I've just seen a thread locked because a poster used it , at least I think that's what happened . Also does having your post locked mean you will be banned ?

Sorry if these seem silly questions , but I am learning as I go along .:)

1. It's the sleeping man next to the poster's name...

and allows you to "ignore" all that poster's writings.

A thread is locked when a poster violates the rules of the board. Name calling, insulting or sexually gratuitous posts are locked by the moderators.

3. I used my ignore feature only once

because there was a certain offensive picture in a signature line. When that poster appears in the same thread I may read, the word "ignore" is substituted for his name & post.

4. say there is poster on the DU you cannot stand

for whatever reason - click IGNORE and they disappear. I use it for fly-under-the-radar trolls and other assorted assholes.

5. Thanks everyone for explaining that to me .

I don't think it's a feature I will use though . You know what they say , 'Keep your friends close , and your enemies closer' , so if I didn't like a poster , I would rather see what they have to say . Plus I'm too nosy to actually choose to miss any posts out .

May I also take this opportunity to also thank everyone for the warm welcome shown to me on this forum . I use other forums beside this one and I have never before seen so many people offering a welcome to newbies . Cheers .:toast:

6. funny story

I missed a certain DUer a lot , it seemed like she had quit posting .

I was quite concerned and asked another DUer (who is a dear friend) about this person and he said she was still posting regularly

well --needless to say I was pretty confused by now-----

I have never put any one on "ignore" on purpose but sure enough when I checked my ignore list

There she was !!!

Now I check it for brain farts ocasionally
