The old "stem-cell bait 'n switch". Media needs to wake up and call it!!
Nobody is saying "George Bush has banned stem cell research"

The republicans AGAIN AND AGAIN will say
"Uh Look (insert CNN talking head), Democrats keep saying there's a ban. There's no ban"

Yes, they're right. There's no "ban". But nobody is saying it and nobody tells them that nobody is saying it!!!

There is a ban on FEDERAL FUNDS which has a HUGE stifling effect on the research.

For the love of GOD there was a study published in the Oct. 8th issue of Science that detailed stem cell molecules CURING a congentital heart defect in mice embryos...a defect which is 100% FATAL in humans!

This kind of thing isn't even mentioned by American talking heads.

Americans are confused about stem cell research and who is doing/saying what because the media is too stupid to slice through the BS. The bottom line is the research in the most technologically advanced nation on earth is being held back due to a lack of available embryonic lines and federal funding.
WE KNOW THERE'S NO F#$%^ING BAN YOU A$$HOLES!!!!

Jon Stewart was talking about MUCH more than just Crossfire. If you haven't seen his appearance, I encourage you to find it and download it. Reading the transcript doesn't do it justice. He was pointing the finger at all these cheap, lazy pundits.
They never examine the issues without turning it into a left/right crossfire type of format.

Is Wolf Blitzer really so stupid that he can't think for himself? Does every question need to be in the form of "Your opponent is saying something different....how do you respond?"

2. The other thing accomplished by a Federal funding ban
is that is keeps the knowledge out of the public domain and hence in the hands of the big drug companies. Privately funded stem cell research is going forward (albeit more slowly than it otherwise could). Academia is locked out because of the federal funding limitations.

This enables corporations to patent the research and hence control the prices and availability of the treatments they will eventually devise.

5. You're right, of course. The simple fact that Kerry needs to push is....
stem cell research will progress at a MUCH slower rate with the ban on federal funding and limits on stem cell lines.

There's no two ways about it.

Bush is stifling science. There's room for both ethics/morality AND federal funding and new embryonic lines.

Claiming democrats are giving "false hope" is a pathetic and empty answer to the facts of this issue.
