You may have heard about the change in his performance, but you don't know it until you've seen it.

4. Agree on the TX debate but not 4 years ago.
The 2000 debates showed me that Bush's cognitive style was non linear. He could barely string two or three ideas together and never made a truly coherent logical argument. He was, however, more articulate and apparently displayed some charm (he makes me throw up, even in '96, spoiled brat). The '96 to '04 change is stunning, however.

6. NPR did a piece on this, oddly enough.
Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 12:22 AM by Cat Atomic
It's on their main site, but I can't seem to find it now. It was interesting. They played clips of Kerry speaking to Congress 30 years ago, and compared it to his speech now. There was almost no difference at all.

Then they played a clip of Bush speaking just 10 years ago, followed by a recent clip. The difference was really striking.

The guy doing the "analysis" predictably put it down to style, essentially saying that Bush is dumbing down his language to connect with all of us stupid plebes. But I really doubt that.

I think Bush has some kind of medical problem, personally. He was never eloquent, but he was articulate just 10 years ago.

8. This could seriously sink bush if
every American had a chance to see it.

I tried twice to nominate threads featuring this video for DU's front page, but no luck so far. In the meantime I post the link on Yahoo's message boards.

9. Change in Bush
This is my first post. I am new to this site so don't know if you all know this already. I heard on CNN on 9/28/04, their Dr. Sanjay Gupta doing a segment of his series "First Patient" about presidents health and stresses. I was out of the room but went back in as soon as I heard him say he was having trouble getting Bush's medical records. (He was planning to do Bush & Kerry the next day.) He said that Bush always has his yearly physical in August but had put it off until December this year. He didn't say it had anything to do with the campaign. Considering the National Guard physical he skipped out on I thought it was funny, then realized they might be hiding something about his health. Would explain a lot!

10. Hi, Lizzie.
Welcome to the DU!!! :smoke: Thanks for the info; I didn't know that.

Another thing to consider is his mom & dad (ugh). This is their son. Surely THEY must be aware of a dramatic and progressive deterioration in their son.

Why don't THEY do something? Like try to talk him out of another 4 years, for God's sake. For our country's sake. For Iraq's sake. For the world's sake.

I mean, are the Ratpublicans really THAT desperate, that they can't find anybody better than a brain-damaged coke-sniffing Korsakoff victim? That's the best they can do?

If this is true, they are in SERIOUS shape, indeed.

:toast:

12. Hello to you!
Thanks for the welcome. I've been reading this great wild group of, dare I say "folks" for a few days, don't remember where I heard of the site, I think someone who called in to Air America mentioned it. I've got to say it is a haven...and you are all so RIGHT...I mean...CORRECT! As to George...it is pathetic....like having a pet stuffed after it has died and propping it up and pretending it is still alive. Might also explain that sort of Stepford thing with Laura, maybe she is stuffed too but her electronics work better and she talks in whole but bland sentences! He needs to be put in mothballs and back in storage! Or maybe given a proper send off! I can't bear the thought of a re-selection. I truly think I'll go nuts! I'm surprised the press didn't make more of his comment about judges that would vote for him in the last debate. Oh..wait...no I'm not!

16. Welcome lizzie

He is propped up now and has been since at least 1999

earpiece have been around for a LOOONNNNGGGG time:

http://www.americanpolitics.com/111999DISpatch.html

"About the only thing that Bush accomplished with this "momentous" speech was to provide his GOP opponents with plenty of ammunition when they actually face Dubya in a debate -- that is, if Bush ever shows up at one without the "earpiece" he is rumored to need to make sure he stays "on message."

Does anyone have any video of 1998?

We need a timeline of Meltdown.

17. Helllloooo!
A time line would be great! Time lines can be the easiest way to prove a case...very hard to argue against what you can see or hear happening in sequence. Hmmmm...in 1998 must have been some executions in Texas...did he ever officiate??? Molly Ivans would be a good source for this!

19. Time line not necessary if you stop thinking medical and start thinking...
Criminal.

Bush is Evil not Incompetent.

This is all an act to dismiss intent for stupidity.

It might be the only thing that saves him from the courts.

11. Wow. What a difference ten years has made.
The difference in Bush's level of articulation is striking. And is it just me, or does Bush look like he's aged more rapidly than people normally do in that time period?

Any speculation as to what's causing that? I doubt it's Alzheimer's, he's a bit too young for that. Do you think the effects of long-term alcoholism and drug abuse are kicking in?

14. As was reported on Frontline earlier this evening
Running for Governor of Texas was his idea. Running for President was the idea of Schultz, and Rice and others. It was clear to many of us that many of the old guard had some ideas on how they want to run the country and Bush was a malleable enough guy and with the right name and right resume.

Of course, he thought that it was going to be easy enough way to spend four or eight years, until 9/11 happened and he was faced with the real world.

The thing doesn't work right. Though, it sounds interesting. Appearently he was articulate. Now he is dumb as a rock.

22. What I think....
He seemed articulate in the old debate because he had memorized a perfectly written script. He clearly sounds like he's recalling a script. No doubt that his camp knew all of the questions WELL in advance. His mind is simply not capable of memorization anymore. Even if his handlers feed him all of the questions he is most likely to face with articulate answers, he simply can't remember. He trips up all over himself even trying to recall what he's supposed to say. The earpiece doesn't help because it just further confuses his adled brain.
