Regarding Sinclair, has anything similar occured before in US history?
Edited on Tue Oct-12-04 02:36 AM by fujiyama
This seems to be something new. This election is by far the nastiest, lowest campaign in US History.

A corporation is FORCING a quarter of the nation's broadcasting channel to air its propganda....and this is nothing but pure propaganda.

I'm running out of hope for this nation. A possible draft. PATRIOT Act II. SC Justices. Tightening FCC and media control. More invasions...

Is the Internet itself even free? I thought I heard something about the US Govt pressuring the British to crack down on some not so flattering websites...(maybe I understood it wrong).

For years I refused to be an alarmist. I knew they didn't win the election legitimately, but I still tried not to believe that these people were nothing but fascists.

No longer. I believe these people are DESTROYING what America stands for. They are destroying its constitution and everything else great about it.

2. Never. But we've never had corporate control of the media, or our
government to this degree either. Sinclair has to be stopped and I have every confidence they will be. They are out of control and give us every reason to have every congress person there is listen to us say this is not acceptable and it is unlawful. Enough is enough.

I Say DELAY! You SAY DELAY! IT ALL ADDS UP TO DELAY! REMOVE DELAY WITHOUT DELAY!

3. I seem to remember
something about Reagan and his movies -- particularly "Bedtime for Bonzo" -- but this is years ago, and I am unsure of the details.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0043325/

I was on the other team then, and I remember that it was a major topic of discussion -- and I think that we beat it down -- but again, I am not sure.

I was drinking the koolaid then. -- They sell it pretty well, you know, and "good" Republicans are expected to drink.

And you try to forget a lot of things -- when you stop drinking that koolaid.

5. Movie theaters are not public airwaves
The Sinclair issue is about a broadcaster using public airwaves in a completely partisan fashion. It isn't analogous to the movies.

6. Ah,
this was TV material when Reagan ran for President. And "Bedtime for Bonzo" is not exactly a flattering movie for a man running for President.

9. OK, I though maybe you mentioned those movies
...because Fahrenheit-911 was also a movie.

People who complain about Sinclair have to be clear about the abuse of broadcasting or the public airwaves, specifically. Because the RW will use F-911 to spin a bogus excuse if they can.

8. Oh my god, I appear to be flip-flopping in the same thread.
Flip-flopping must be somewhat contagious. I will stay at home the next few days and away from others in the hope they won't catch it.

Whatever it is.

10. Was I wrong or did "Terminator" start showing up before the Cal. recall
Among other Schwarzenegger movies--they all seemed to show up at once and they were all over cable.

Sinclair-like in appearance? Maybe. But perhaps the cable networks were simply sticking finger up to see what way the wind was blowing and seeing that those films would capture the zeitgeist or something.
