What would the Commandments supporters think if other religions...
...started demanding that representations of their beliefs be included with the 10 Commandments?

1. so long as the message is positive, bring it on !
The Judeao/Christian ethic does not have a lock on positive moral guidelines. I'm trying to become a better person, I'll hear advice from other sources.

2. Historical impact
I think it's OK to include things that had historical impact -- including the Code of Hammurabi.

4. is this the issue we should be talking about?
Is there anyone on DU that agrees with the fundies about this? Probably not many. Yet we spend day after day talking about the fundie's feeble attempts to have the government endorse their religion. Isn't this distracting the Democratic party from our goals? The fundies can't win this battle, and they know it. Yet we continue to give them attention. Is this a good thing?

5. They would freak out if THIS document were there
1797 America made a treaty with Tripoli, declaring that "the government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion." This reassurance to Islam was written under Washington's presidency, and approved by the Senate under John Adams.

and thats an historical document.

No, these people want mob rule theocracy...they dont want other religions or non religions in the US to be represented, period.

6. Some would be tolerant...
and ready to be inclusive of other views,
but there would be a segment of fundamentalists
that would claim theirs is the only true
religion and refuse to share space next
to other religions. They would also claim
that this is a Christian nation according
to history.

It would probably get really ugly, this is
one of the very best of reasons to keep
government free of religion.
