Devastating op ed about Bush....by Rheta Johnson. Wow!
RHETA GRIMSLEY JOHNSON: People like Bush. He doesn't use big words. He's one of us.

http://www.djournal.com/pages/story.asp?ID=70010&pub=1&div=Opinion

SNIP..."I read an article. The article said people like George Bush. They like Bush because he speaks in short sentences. They can relate. It makes sense. Who wants a wordy president? Bush sounds decisive. He sounds sure. He sounds sm--. Never mind. He is on our level.

SNIP.."The article called Bushspeak "austere." Bush wouldn't say "austere." That's a fancy word. Bush hates fancy words. Bush likes plain words. He likes declarative sentences. Bush wouldn't say "declarative." He doesn't know "declarative." Neither do we."

SNIP.."He also uses body language. His body uses short sentences, too. His body says: "I am tough. Don't mess with Texas. I don't windsurf."

SNIP..."Dick talks tough. That is OK. He is Republican. Republicans are patriotic. All of them. They love America. They fly the flag. They say "under God." God takes sides. God is Republican. Everybody knows that. Bush found God. He told us...."END SNIP

I love her writings, and I relate to them so well. This is a slap down for Bush, pure and simple. Our Ledger carries her columns, but not online. Does she still write for the Atlanta Journal Constitution?

3. I like this article. It makes sense.
Bush just knows how the world works. Just ask him. He'll tell you he does. Take his word for it. Take his word for everything. The Man Who Never Makes A Mistake for President!

4. I could NOT disagree more with this
assessment of Bush. I've read the same thing in CounterPunch.com. They call it the "ass-scratching factor". They mean that Bush is one of "the guys". You can put your feet up on the table, grab the fork and start to unloosen something that's stuck between your teeth.

He's just an ordinary guy. So are a lot of people down the street. It doesn't mean I want them making decisions for me.

Is THIS who we want in the White House, making decisions that affect us all? Is this who should be representing us to foreign leaders, who talk amongst themselves and wonder 'who the hell is this guy?'

Or how about if we were in a major crisis. Do you really want the Local Dog Catcher hovering above the button, trying to decide if he should push?

This is a concoction, a fairy tale that the Republican Spinmeisters have created. They've turned a huge liability (Bush, no other comment necessary) into an "asset" . "ASS" is more like it.

6. Did you read the WHOLE article?
Rheta is right, as usual. And I am proud to call her a fellow Mississippian. If you put this article in the context of the others she has authored, you would better understand what she is saying.

7. Uh, that editorial was tongue in cheek,
satire, not serious.

The writer's intention was to convey the exact same sentiments you did in your post but in an ironic manner.

:wow:

8. Do you do subtle very well? Or sarcasm?
This is a perfect description of Bush, and she detests the guy.

This is why I have seen Bushy\Cheney signs in the same yards that have trucks with "Proud To Be Union" bumber stickers in the driveway.

10. Nicely done. Thanks for sharing.
We are free. God is on our side. We thank god. Terrorists are evil. They hate our freedom. We killed them. God is happy. Bush is happy.

18. liked this section...
The world is better off. We are safer. Mission accomplished.

Soldiers are dying in Iraq. Thousands are maimed. Bush is sorry. It is necessary. Nobody feels worse.

We have spent billions. That's OK. Congress would just waste it. On health care. On education. Or something else silly.

The world is safer. We are at Terror Level Orange, not Red. Can you beat that?

19. I can feel her seething anger and frustration that he is called president
I can see how she feels all through the article....I recognize those feelings.

When I write my friend in Belgium, who is bravely trying to remain friends in spite of his hatred of our country.....I always make clear that I am sorry he is called president....I am sorry for what he done to Belgium and Iraq and the world.
