Psalm 94 and the Bush Administration- an analogy
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 12:46 PM by Dob Bole
I was reading through the Psalms this morning (well, it's not morning anymore, but I woke up late) and found this gem in Psalm 94:

"Can a corrupt throne be allied with you? One that brings on misery by its decrees?"

That describes the Bush administration perfectly. They fascistly proclaim that they are on God's side...yet they're corrupt and they bring misery on us and everyone else in the world.

And the similarities don't end there. Take a look at the whole Psalm, if you want:

1. Killing for God........
is beyond madness. Whether it's the Crusades, the Inquisition,
or any of the assorted "holy wars" past, present or future. Seems like the fast track to Hell. Just MHO.

Peace

2. Psalm 94
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 01:03 PM by sunsetbeachdem
Yes, it does, but the amazing thing about the Bible is that it speaks to the human condition is such a way that each of us can find meaning. The Bushies could read this and think it is speaking for them. (we are all one)

"Judgment will again be founded on righteousness, and all the upright in heart will follow it."

If we remember, in our opposition to this corrupt administration, to not become like them, but maintain our goodness in thought, words, and actions. "Evil" cannot be killed with a gun. Only Love can remove it.

Love,
suse

3. And take a traipse with me through the Book of Amos
The next time some fundy nutjob tries to tell you that Bush is annointed by God to bring about the Second Coming and glorious return of Jesus, direct them to Amos 5:18-24 (NRSV):

(18) Alas for you who desire the day of the Lord! Why do you want the day of the Lord? It is darkness, not light;

(19) as if someone fled from a lion and was met by a bear; or went into the house and rested a hand against the wall and was bitten by a snake.

(20) Is not the day of the Lord darkness, not light, and gloom with no brightness in it?

* * *

(24) But let justice roll down like water, and righteousness like an everflowing stream.

_________________

Point out to the nutjob that Amos doesn't make any distinctions about the day of the Lord. It is darkness for everyone, not just the wicked or the unrighteous. In the interest of brevity (too late, I know), I took out the three verses where Amos warns the people who are depending on their own righteousness to spare them.

5. Amos is one of my favorite books
But then, all of the prophetic books are a treasure.
