Next time watch carefully when CNN has Bush live delivering a speech to a selected crowd, pay attention.
Not to the words he speaks, what he says is meaningless.
Instead listen to his cadence, reptition, watch his body movement/gestures, where he phrases and emphasizes, the dramatic pauses. Then forget for a moment that he is the president and pretend you just tuned into a religious TV channel. What does bush look like in that moment?
A presidential televangelist. The words don't have to be rational, they just need to leave folk feeling spirited. You can hear his intonation as if he's asking, "can I get an Amen!" and the congregation responds with cheer.
I believe this is why he still has approval among folk who are willing to follow him blindly. They don't pay attention to the specifics of what he says, they don't care and can't retain it. They are receptive to televangelizing and are tuned right in to watch his sermon.
