Did the Dems play it right?
During the lead-up to WJC's impeachment, most of the GOP congresslime appeared grave, prudent, non-reactionary - almost statemanlike. They let the media do the serious rumor-mongering, lying, hate-spewing, and accusing.

Our guys don't have any media help, so it looked like they were grabbing their ankles while this slid away. But this story has festered organically into a full-blown scandal, while the Congressional Dems have stayed off the low road, maintaining their dignity. Maybe this will help them though the final sinking of SS Smirk.

Whadya think, were they cowering before the mighty W, or just playing it shrewdly?

1. They had no power to say anything
since the congress signed it over to shrub, along with giving the WH their backing. Anything they might have said wouldn't have mattered.

2. Of course not
Everybody knows that the Dems (and the media) do anything and everything that Bush* wants, so obviously, this scandal has grown without any effort by anyone at all. Like a weed, this scandal grows, needing nothing but some sunlight.

/sarcasm off

4. Hmmm I keep recalling something about a Rose Garden ceremony
Edited on Fri Jul-11-03 11:59 AM by nothingshocksmeanymo
that allowed the blank check for this war to be signed even though many of us certainly knew we would be in Iraq for years, that the ground would not be a cake walk and that information about WMD's was being trumped up. Unfortunately, the REAPOLITCKERS at a certain organization said we should not give the appearance of being weak on security...nice way to obviate the need for meaningful debate.

9. Funny, I have a different memory
I remember a Rose Garden ceremony leading to the passage of a non-binding "resolution" which gave no one anything --nevermind a "blank check for war", a meaningless propoganda phrase which "obviates the need for meaningful debate"-- but did force Bush* to go to the UN (which he had previously said he neither wanted to do, or needed to do) where he presented the fraudulent evidence that might eventually lead to his resignation/defeat/impeachment.

3. I've been thinking the same thing
The Dems candor helped to avoid the puke defense that, "This is all just liberal politics". This scandal is entirely on *'s head. No politics, no 50 million dollar taxpayer funded investigation. Now that the flood gates are open, they're starting to pounce.

5. It doesn't matter one bit
whether the Dems scream and shout, or hide their thumbs and hope someone else screams and shouts. The media already reports this EVERY TIME as "some Democrats, especially those with PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRATIONS" playing politics with *'s honor and dignity. In other words, f*ck the truth, the media spins this as Democratic politics no matter what.

10. If it doesn't matter
then why do you complain when the Dems are silent?

6. Maybe they've been working behind the scenes?
Take Rand Beers, for example, anyone think Beers didn't have a LOT of help making that decision?

7. No, not at all. SOME Dems are "playing it right," but there's no overall
strategy. The usual stalwarts (Waxman, Conyers, Kucinich, Dean) are contributing. A few usual yellow-bellies (Kerry) are feeling modestly emboldened. But there is no party-wide strategy in evidence about this.

11. "yellow belly" said "Bush* misled"
while others are still saying it's "unthinkable" that Bush* lied.

15. you must not be on the DNC's mailing list
to keep up to date on what they're actually doing, go to www.democrats.org and sign up.

While you're there, check out the ad about the SOTU speech.

14. I Think They Might Have.
I started to think that myself while listening to Carl Levin the other day. Seems like they are giving Shrubco just enough rope to hang themselves.
