1. Wow, someone who can take orders. That requires critical thinking.
And even better, the child of someone who can take orders. Thats requires that you actually are born. Wouldn't want to argue with them, how could they lose.

2. Majors are far from fools
You can't be a slouch to make Major.

Of course, it doesn't qualify one as an expert in foreign policy, but I would tend to listen closely to the man -- even if he is biased, he is likely to reflect certain opinions from the Army's higher echelons that are otherwise difficult to come by.

3. May I be the Devil's Advocate?
I doubt there is anyone on DU who detests bush and conservatives more than I do, but prima facia evidence of your post does not indicate that said Major was an officer for 20 years. He may have had prior enlisted service making his retirement as an O-4 at 20 perfectly plausible and very salutable; since that would indicate that as a grunt he got a College Degree. Having said that bush has O-zero credibility on damn near everything in the universe except his total and complete ability to lie and believe it. He is very good at that; and of course be enabled to do anything he does.

6. Even if enlisted...
... college degree not required. Simply requires acceptance to and completion of OCS. Knew a number of same in the Army--no college, just OCS.

No matter--if the fellow sings the praises of Bush, his education is likely composed of much more indoctrination than intellectual rigor.

Cheers.

5. Actually, a major is...
... a field-grade officer (the bottom rung of that ladder, but still).

And, as if it need be noted, the opinion of one military man hardly constitutes in-depth knowledge of foreign affairs on the part of the son.

How much does this fellow know himself, apart from parroting his father's opinions? Suggest the obvious--his knowledge is lacking for the simple reason that he can't speak for himself.

Cheers.

7. Ollie North comes to mind
as a very good bad example. He was a republican badass, political ties and all and retired as an O-5. He wasn't Colonel North. He was Lieutenant Colonel North, a big, big difference. He should have been inmate North.

9. I recall the comments about North...
... during the hearings. Wore his uniform to the hearings and swore allegiance to non-partisan civilian control of the military, but acquaintances said he was the most political person they'd met in the military, and almost never wore his uniform while in service to the Reagan White House.

Ollie missed his time. He would have fit right into the Pentagon in 1962. Lyman Lemnitzer would have loved him.

Cheers.

8. My brother-in-law is a retired Col.
from the Army. He went to war college for a year with Wesley Clark and he's met Colin Powell several times and he tells me that Bushco is the worst thing to happen to this country since Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger.

Major is a very honourable rank, probably the highest that will
be anywhere near taking fire in the field. That he has served 20
years makes him a good man.

Rather than take it away from him, give him great respect. Are you
trying to win over a voter, or just shit on somebody.?

I can't think of a presidential candidate or president since Ike who
was higher than major.... i love to be wrong... anyone? ;-)

14. Yes, and i hope he considers a post in a kerry administration
I really like General Clark, and i think he would make an oustanding
SecDef, NSA, or SecState. I wish he would join up with his team
and help President Kerry clean up the mess... by god we need
people like him.
