OUTFOXED
OMG OMG OMG

As a Canadian I do not get the Fox News Channel, there has been lots of debate to bring it here, so I thought I should do a little research, to see if it was as bad as everyone here seems to claim.

I saw the Outfoxed dvd at my local sub-establishment dvd store, so I picked it up....

and it is worse, much worse than I could have though, a pure propoganda channel, I don't know how you begin to fight against something like that.

"Some People Say" it is very very wrong.

1. Its tough all right
They villify anyone who steps away from the propaganda so politicians are afraid to take them on.

People who criticise it are ignored.

Hey when you have a President who makes you sign a contract saying you wholeheartedly support him, before you can watch him speak, that says it all about where this country is headed.

2. It is interesting to get the views of those outside the US
I don't watch FOX myself - but it still gets into the culture.

I think people who don't live here have no idea how bad the propaganda is here in the US - and a lot people here don't get it either.

they have a picture of Bill O'Rielly with this headline:

IS CANADA READY FOR LOUDMOUTH TV?

in smaller print "Rude and rabidly pro=Bush Fox News now wants to come here.

I haven't had a chance to read the article yet,not sure I want to.On

5. basically
the debate here, is if it is news, and if it is marketing itself as news, can we show it as it is completely just rw commentary....

its an interesting debate, but it isnt one canada should really be having, it it.

I can't believe Fox would even have the gaul to report on the Dan Rather story. Some people say, Rather has a little more credibility than O'reilly.

4. Write back when you see Bush's Brain. I thought it was even more
threatening.

It is incredible how the arrangement of facts, the condensation, and viewing in one gulp can scare the (fill in the word) out of you.

Also see the doc about Al-Jazeera.

8. Another remarkable movie
"Hijacking Catastrophe: 9/11, Fear & the Selling of American Empire"

This movie picks up where Fahrenheit 911 left off.

It starts with background on some of the key players, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, etc. Then it talks about the evolution of the neo-con agenda of global domination through unilateral force from the "Wolfowitz Doctrine" that was dismissed in the early 90's through the Project for the New American Century today.

They show the quotes from the September 2000 report, "Rebuilding America's Defenses; Strategy, Forces and Resources For a New Century", including the one about needing a "new Pearl Harbor" to speed things up.

Then they go on to show how this administration has used 9/11 to push their agenda, starting with the Patriot Act, Afghanistan and Iraq.

They talk about how "Shock and Awe" was directed at the world and not just the Iraqi army. Look at how powerful we are. Be afraid, be very afraid.

They talk about how this dream of empire is bankrupting our country. About how despite acting macho, the architects of this plan have no actual war experience.

They close by talking about what we can expect if the neo-cons are not stopped. It encourages fighting terror and fear with public debate and truth.

The DVD has two versions - the full movie which runs about an hour and an abridged version that runs about a half hour. It also includes extended 30 minute interviews and an examination of the Economics of Empire.

"Hijacking Catastrophe" is from The Media Education Foundation (www.mediaed.org ) and includes interviews with Lt. Colonel Karen Kwiatkowski, Scott Ritter, Daniel Elsberg, Norman Mailer, Noam Chomsky, Medea Benjamin and more as well as clips of news coverage of events.

It is in some theaters (list at the website, October shown below) but not many and not for very long.

Buy the DVD or VHS - watch it - pass it around.

This is the movie we have been waiting for!

Don't take my word for it. The movie website has substantial film clips. Check it out for yourself.

DVD or VHS for $19.95

14. Can you get Vision TV where you are? "The Corporation" this week
(At least in BC -- I assume, since it's cable, that it's also showing elsewhere on the same channel, Wednesday night -- first of three installments.) They've got a nice section exposing FOX, if you haven't seen the movie yet.

Is that a provincial thing? I've heard that before but I didn't know that fox really wasn't carried up north.
