On the night of November 2nd, after we’ve all voted, what would help ensure that our votes get counted accurately more than having millions of concerned citizens out on the street waiting to hear who won or who hijacked?
In my little town of Bloomington, IN, I'm attempting to organize a rally to hopefully celebrate (but possibly protest) the outcome. If we get enough people nationwide to join us, I think we can create a formidable democratic front on the streets. Let's show them we're out there, concerned and willing to show it. This is Democracy in action.
If we make enough noise and get enough support, we will send a signal that not only are we watching, but we are will to act too. Hopefully, the powers that be will be watching us as well and will act to ensure that the candidate who should take office does so. If another Floridian Debacle happens, we will be on the streets the minute it does, ready to show the government – which was so formally of us – that the United States is ready to be a Democracy once again.
If you think this is a worthy cause, if you believe Democracy is worth saving, then join us in this nationwide post-election rally. Create posters and flyers. Tell your friends to come along. Contact the pro-Democracy, anti-war, women’s rights, civil rights, etc. groups that you’re involved with and ask them to spread the word too.
By working together in a nationwide united front at the right time (Nov. 2nd - Election Night) in the right places (our urban centers), we can bring Democracy back home.
