My son's teacher from last year has a W sticker on her car
What should I do? Any ideas? My son attends a progressive school ( I call it a hippie school) and most folks there are for Kerry. I really like this woman.. she is about 25 and did a great job teaching my kid last year. I want to talk to her about the need for women, esp. young women, to really think about the effects of * policies on women, education, arts, foreign policy, etc. I was thinking about giving her some pamphlets, but I don't want her to think I am pressuring her, either, as a parent.

Any ideas and thanks. :)

1. Aw, I'd just let it go.
If she's so far gone that she's placed a W sticker on her car, you probably can't change her. Let's just hope she doesn't have to find things out the hard way.

:hi: tigereye!

5. hi Bunny!
well my policy these days is to ask people why they are supporting * and then ask them to do some more reading and think about the long term implications of having him for another 4 years. I guess if I respect and like people, I want them to have the "right info." ;)

3. Just ask her a simple and direct question
"I see the Bush bumper sticker on your car. Can you tell me why you're supporting his re-election?"

Be sure to pay out enough rope so that she can fashion a good noose, adequate to the job of hanging herself.

Have your facts together before the conversation, be ready to refute the more obvious nonsense, and point out the contradictions between what she thinks about Bush and the reality of what he's done during his presidency.

You don't have to squash her like a bug or humiliate her. Just get her brain jump-started, and lead her to figuring out on her own how badly she's betraying her own beliefs and interests. She'll be a much stronger supporter of Kerry for reaching her conclusions on her own.

6. that is what I planned to do!
I just didn't want her to think that " parents" are pressuring her. But then she did put the sticker on her car.

4. She's young and stupid . . . and probably only getting paid
2/3's what her male colleagues are being paid for doing the same job. She thinks Theresa Heinz Kerry is a terrible opinionated crude woman who shouldn't be first lady because First Lady's should support their husbands.

Her mother was probably more like Nancy Reagan than like Hillary Clinton.

She's a lost cause - don't worry about it.

7. well knowing our school
she is not getting paid a whole hell of a lot... private school with fairly low tuition. But when I respect someone as a person, I want to know the reasons for their actions. If I didn't like her, I probably wouldn't care.

8. How incredibly unprofessional!
The goal of any teacher is NOT to inflict undue influence on his/her pupils.
I taught for 25 years and never sported a political bumper sticker until I retired!
Power is subtle, and kids are too easily intimidated.

11. Educators for *
While doing local door to door one of our canvassers (a retired teacher) spoke to a principal of a school that has primarily low income and minority children. He is voting for *. The teacher asked him how he could in view of the No Child Left Behind fiasco. He replied that it was only 1/3 bad. When asked what the 1/3 was he said, "There's no funding." The teacher said, "And there isn't going to be." Makes you wonder how some of these jerks get promoted to principal.

10. Send your son to school in a Kerry t-shirt.
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 10:22 AM by in_cog_ni_to
Maybe she will see it and strike up a conversation with you instead of you approaching her. If she does talk politics with you THEN you can lay it on.

I volunteer at my son's school and wear Kerry t-shirts when I'm there. Not ONE teacher has ever said anything about it. I sense it's because they're repukes....my whole community is. The school secretary DID see me sitting in my anti-chimp/pro-Kerry bumpersticker laden car and smiled and waved. That was encouraging. I work in my son's science lab today and CAN'T WAIT to walk in with a Kerry t-shirt today! I am anxious to see if the debate changed anything.

28. actually my son and has come to me with tales of several
of his teachers either not knowing who to vote for or leaning toward Bush. I did not ask him to do this, he just brought it up to me. He is 8. I told him we would get a fact sheet together to give them!

12. She obviously works for a living, so I'd hammer away at Bush's
scourging of the working class from 2001-2004. 5 million more w/o health insurance, 1.7 million net jobs lost and new jobs created not as good as old ones lost.

Ask her what Bush's plans are for the economy for 2005-2008.

13. Keep her busy on Nov. 2!
And make sure the other teachers have all the Kerry stickers they want!!

I dropped my child at preschool off this morning -- one of the teachers is a good Dem, while one of the student's dad is a "Bush strategist," whatever the hell that means. Anyway, she grabbed him my the arm, pulled him tight, and said, "Gee Terry, ya don't look so happy today? What's the matter?"

14. personally i would ask her why she is supporting w
just as another poster suggested, and truly listen to her answer, but mainly to get her vibe, and to see how she assimilates info, whether she is just spouting rehashed hate radio and cable news. If so, I would seriously think about requesting a change of teachers. IMHO.

21. no she was his teacher last year
she was and is a wonderful teacher and a nice person.

I guess I am able to separate people's politics from their skill set and can still like them even if their politics are different than mine. My Maternal grandmother was a Rep., but that was a different time. People are entitled to be Reps. even if I don't agree... I don't understand it, but I don't go in the voting booth with them. :)

25. Expanding foam is simpler
Just spray a can of expanding foam in to the windshield wiper
gap.. you know that stuff you get at the hardware shop for insulating
around windows.

Just maybe her windshield needs more insulation on the bottom part.
