Look, even he admitted tonight that he thought he would breeze through his presidency ("I never dreamed I would send folks into combat" or whatever).

He saw 9/11 as an opportunity to further his radical idealogy, but now things aren't going so great, and he has a very smart and battle-hardened opponent making him look like shit.

It's wearing him down.
