Something rotten in the state of Florida
http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/story.jsp?story=566688

Not sure if this was posted earlier - but yet one more excellent article.

snip - The mess that is Florida nevertheless came as a profound shock to a group of international election monitors who toured the state last week. Dr Brigalia Bam, who chairs South Africa's Independent Electoral Commission, was stunned by the patchwork of jurisdictions, rules and anomalies. "Absolutely everything is a violation," she said. "All these different systems in different counties with no accountability... It's like the poorest village in Africa." November could be another agonisingly long month in American politics.

1. Is Florida capable of feeling the humiliation?

3. Why oh why has not the people of Florida insisted that their elections
be done right...What an embarrassment to be compared to the "poorest village in Africa". It will take the people of Florida to demand this be straighten out and all counties be uniform. They should be blaming Jeb for this.

4. they have had four years to fix it
obviously, they do not want to fix it. They, indeed, will seek to fix it again and give the election to Bush as before.

I will refuse to spend another dollar in Florida. It is a corrupted state and continues to try to fix elections in spite of it's sleezy reputation. Apparently they think they can get away with it again.

5. They've had four years to fine tune it!
You are of course correct when you say they don't want to fix it.

6. HAHAHAHAHAHA!
It's called State's Rights, and then from there it goes downhill as each County has its own way of doing things; and then from there your rights further degrade at a municipality level.

I kid you not. I read a city transcript of a meeting on ethics considerations for ex parte communications. They wanted the right to have the ex parte communications as long as they stated in a public meeting that the had the meeting. The lawyer fumbled a bit and said that it would probably be alright at a municipality level, but that a citizen might have a federal or state issue with it. Since it meant that a citizen had to sue in order to get the wheels of justice moving, they figured they were safe to pass the law. And you know what? They're absolutely right. The common man doesn't have a chance in Florida. It is just too expensive and time consuming to get justice.

7. The Dems down there are probably too poor to demand their rights.
The rich pugs live there in winter to keep from paying state taxes.'
You couldn't pay me to live or even visit there.
