how are your nerves holding up?
i'm very apprehensive, but i've braced myself for any possibility. win or lose, we have much work to do. with one month to go, i confess to being nervous. optimistically, realistically nervous.

i think millions of us are nervous, and this is playing into their plans for good or bad. i feel they are tweaking our nerves and phyches to sway us to vote for them out of fear. they'll be sorry for that.

2. Trying not to lose sleep
As long as I only watch Countdown or Jon Stewart for news I can sleep at night. Every other "news" source just gets me riled up. I think if we use the fear about the draft to counter their fear about terrorists, we can win this election in a landslide. I'm sending a LTTE to two papers about it today.

3. I'm hoping for the best
but fearing the worst. Arkansas was blanketed with the hate message from the GOP about liberals taking away Bibles. Muslims, especially Muslim converts, are demonized in the press and on television shows. If Bush is elected, I fear what will happen. Right now, if my boss knew my faith, I'd be out of a job. If the people in my area swallow the lies put forth by the GOP, I wouldn't be surprised to see houses burned and people beaten up simply for being 'liberals' or even Democrats.

Because of this, I'm doing everything I can think of to make sure people are told the truth and that as many Kerry voters as possible get to the polls.

4. Look. We have no idea
who is going to show up on election day. The rightwing is very good at mobilizing their vote. They use the "ban the Bible" and gay marriage to rally the troops. Whatever lies will work. But come election day, we don't know who is actually going to get off their butt and vote. Maybe thousands of young people who never felt motivated before. Maybe thousands of unemployed middle-aged people who haven't voted before or voted for conservatives but feel they've been outsourced and ignored. We just don't know. But let's not defeat ourselves. Motivate people. Stress the importance of voting. We need to be as committed as the right.

6. i've already voted
and i'm trying to get others to vote too. so at least i'm trying. years ago, i was so apathetic, i didn't vote. i figure it's the least a citizen of america can do, like waving a little flag, only productive.

5. I am not optimistic
We control nothing and they control information to the people. I see more aggressive foreign policy, more war, more arms proliferation, and more assaults on the constitution and Bill of Rights.

7. I have gotten so used to being angry at Bush's screwups
I feel like as soon as Kerry gets inaugerated, I'll have to be angry and criticize his screwups, too, because I have gotten in the habit. Whoever is in power is going to get it from me, from now on. There goes my blood pressure.

8. In my job, I take information calls regarding city services.
In 1992 (Bush v Clinton), the phone rang all day on election day. "Where do I vote?" "Wait, I'll put my friend on, where does she vote?" With our same day registration, we had a huge turnout and a win for Clinton. I'm preparing (and hoping) for the same this year.

9. My nerves are shot and I am so demoralized that I really don't believe
we have even a vague chance of winning.

I don't even watch the news any more - I was a news junkie. I turned on CNN for about 5 minutes yesterday and the polls showed Bush 8 points ahead.

I'm to the point of feeling "why even bother". I know this is wrong but right now I can't help it.

12. don't despair
this is a big country with a lot of people. The hate-radio talkers are loud and our media is now in the grip of corporate whoredom. But that doesn't mean we're all in lockstep. There are more of us than you know. We're just not as loud or have the outlets as our opposition. Stay strong. We need you.

13. I know exactly how you feel
but maybe these polls are supposed to have that effect , so you just say "why bother" they are only polling "likely voters" . About 2 years ago I was polled by ABC and was very critical of Bush. It was before the war in Iraq and I gave it to them . They asked if they could call me back in the future and I said "Please do" They never have.

10. Girding my psyche for what seems inevitable
Going scouting in British Columbia this fall, to see if I can save my two sons from the draft.

Pissed at Kerry's lackluster campaign.

Hoping against hope that somehow he can pull it off.

11. Nervous as heck.....
my nails have been chewed to the nubs ever since the swift boat demons began to bring doubt against a real hero's credentials. I'm going to be working the phone banks next Tues/Thursday for our union. Got keep positive, and busy for Kerry/Edwards.

14. I wake up in the middle of the night
and my neck and shoulders are balled up tightly. I wake up in the morning with a feeling of unease. My heart beats rapidly.

Fucking Bush. I haven't felt truly relaxed in four years.
