What pundits, reporters, media outlets do DU'ers trust?
After reading numerous threads and seeing back and forth on many media personalities (one day Maher is good, then bad; one day Tweety does great, then bad and so on) I'm curious what media personalities out there the most hard core of DU'ers do trust.

Jon Stewart seems to get high ratings, as does K. Olberman and Bill Moyers, but how about some more in the print and electronic world.

Myself, I like Eric Alterman, David Corn and of course Al Franken.

1. I'm not a follower of personalities,
although I like Krugman because he was a Reagan advisor, which IMO gives him a strong air of impartiality as he attacks *'s policies. Plus the fact that he is an outstanding economist.

As to the media itself, I like the Army Times and the Marine Corps Times, because they are quasi-affiliated with those services and tell it straight to the servicemember, just how it is. They have criticized * consistently, and aren't afraid to say that they think his policies are disastrous for the military. Of course, they also tend to promote the military, but that doesn't bother me much. You have to read between the lines, to some extent, with everything--including Corn and Krugman. :)

3. I agree. The pursuit of a "cult of personality"

dismays me. I had hoped that intelligent progressives would understand how that type of "leadership" is unhealthy for a democracy. I don't understand why some need the right message to come from the right person instead of just evaluating ideas on their merits.

When a pundit promotes flat taxes, or war, I disagree with them. When they promote a progressive tax structure and peace, then I agree.

But Thomas Friedman is still a media whore.

4. Where do you get your news/information from then?
Okay, then where do you get your information from? Do you go to places like dailykos, buzzflash, antiwar?

Commondreams.org is good too....

5. I read a variety of newspapers
both in print and on the Internet. I have been impressed by coverage from the Christian Science Monitor, www.sojourners.net, and the BBC.

Also, I do not consider the sources you mentioned to be reporting. I see it more as opinion and analysis. For the raw facts, I look to reporting, not punditry. Once I form my own opinion, I then can evaluate the pundits.

I like buzzflash the best of all the sites you mentioned. dailykos is a bit whiney, but sometimes has a thought-provoking take on things. Commondreams I'm not too impressed with. It's really a collection of it's writer's views, which are often based on misunderstandings of the facts. I also find many of their writers accepting conventional wisdoms that aren't true.

2. IMHO on CNN
I keep my channel on the horrendously awful CNN for most of the day.

Anderson Cooper seems the best of all of the "reporters". The term is used loosely since CNN seems to be operating as a right-wing-propaganda distributor.

I like Lou Dobbs a lot, except when he goes on his Exporting America - Close all the Borders paranoid rants. He is very unafraid of challenging his viewers with Anti-Administration pieces. I particularly like his renaming of the jobless recovery as the Job LOSS recovery.

Paula Zahn, Judy Woodruff, and fricking Wolf Blitzer can each burn in hell for their "trusted" distorting.

6. For Pundits i like Kevin Phillips, Katrina Vandenheuvel
although she doesn't get much airtime. I always read Paul Krugman and Helen thomas of course. For shows It's NOW and i still watch 60 minutes except when they profile entertainers, doesn't interest me that much. The Daily Show every night and i try to catch Countdown. As for reporters, i love Christiane Amanpour and Nic Robertson both of CNN, imo they are the only creditble part of CNN today. I do watch BBC world news and sometime Newshour on PBS.

10. Joe Conason
He's so good that Tweety and all the other whores, especially Russert won't have him on their show. GOP pundits are terrified of him because he's knowledgeable and takes no prisoners during a debate. I watched him destroy Coulter once, it was awesome. He should have his own show. In fact, I think I'll email MSNBC and make that suggestion.

14. Saw Joe on Newsnight with Brown and
he did a great job. I emailed him and he wrote a very nice email back and asked if I would email Brown and express my desire to make Joe a regular guest. I did that.

Joe will also respond to emails. I have written him a few times and he always responds.
