Mike, as I type these words, I'm listening to you talk about your Italian grandfather. I'm a third-generation Italian-American whose grandfather and his family came here from Italy in 1916. My grandfather was nine years old at the time. Because he couldn't speak English, grandpa had to go back to the first grade in school. Needless to say, he learned English pretty quickly! At the same time, grandpa's Americanization caused him to become ashamed of his Italian background. That shame manifested itself in his refusal to speak Italian any more--even at home, despite his parents not knowing English. Also, when my grandparents started their family, grandpa refused to give Italian names to my father or to any of my uncles or aunts.

I had hoped that America was past that kind of crap, but unfortunately I know better. "Conform or die," that's the American credo as we proceed into the 21st century. Goddamn those right-wing motherfuckers!

The kid then went on to just say random things about both candidates and then blurts out "KERRY SUCKS" and hung up....

Some people just think they are so brilliant when they do stupid things like that. I talk to a lot of people at my job site who do the same thing. They just blurt out random things and "KERRY SUCKS" without backing up what they say. They just sound stupid whenever they do so.
