Daily Howler Answers CBS Rather flap
The Daily Howler (http://dailyhowler.com/) does an excellent job putting the CBS flap in perspective.

"Let’s face it—that is quite a lapse. So why is this story only somewhat remarkable? The story is only somewhat remarkable because of something you won’t learn on cable TV. On cable, all good pundits must pretend to be shocked—just shocked—at what has occurred. In fact, slipshod, lazy, incompetent work has long been the norm for America’s press corps. As we’ve noted again and again, bungled stories were also the norm in our last three White House elections. Despite what trained pundits tell you on cable, this latest bungling is the norm. Rather’s bungling is not the exception.

<snip>

"Yes, all good pundits will know to act like this is some sort of puzzling outlier. And when trained seals slap their mitts and shout “liberal bias,” all good pundits will know not to mention the crackpot stories about Clinton and Gore..."

1. I've seen that Lying Lisa Myers story 3 times since last night.
Her "memo" facts are dead wrong, yet CNN plays that story repeatedly.

2. She's an absolutely worthless POS
I cringe whenever I accidentally see her. And I put Candy Crowley in the same boat. I hate those two. Well, add Judy Woodruff too.

3. The Daily Howler is a national treasure
And right on the money; although i hope they do more of an analysis on why this particular lapse is news; while other lapses aren't worth mentioning.

In other words they can pimp what ever lies they want about Kerry, but when they make a mistake with President Bush they have to know they will get slammed.

4. Agreed...And scroll down further in today's Howler...
...he debunks the notion that Kerry ever said "Who among us doesn't love NASCAR". Turns out it was a figment of the imagination of Maureen Dowd! They're trying to Gore him, folks.

5. Why isn't the folowing reported?
Among “likely voters” whom Gallup had polled, 40 percent were Republicans and just 33 percent were Democrats—a healthy tilt, and a puzzling leg up for Bush. After all, how does turnout normally run? In 1996 and 2000, turnout was 39 percent Dem each time, and 34/35 percent Republican.

It doesn't take an idiot to figure out why the poll favors Bush, now does it?

6. I don't agree with The Daily Howler on this.
Bob Somerby implies CBS should have contacted Bill Burkett's source.

My objection is that Burkett was an anonymous source.

If reporters called the sources of anonymous sources, they wouldn't be anonymous.
