We aren't in the soup line yet...
When have any of us sacrificed to the extent that our Grandparents did? We need to understand these times are a test of our will. Not the end of America.
This is a Civil War against Ideologies of a century ago. Our Parents and Grandparents fought these same struggles. Now is our turn to fight for our wants and needs. History is repeating itself and we will win again.

2. Excellent point!
It's easy to think that because this might be the most dire time we personally have ever faced, that it's some how earth-shattering and has never been seen before. I'm not saying things are not serious. They are. But, struggles have always come along in human history. That's the deal.

3. yeah...
but our grandparents were willing to make sacrifices

Christ, in WWII they rationed sugar...and these stupid repukes can't pay taxes or heaven forbid, drive a fuel efficient vehicle.

with so few people willing or even able to make sacrifices...what scares me is not "how bad" it is, in a qualitative sense, but that so many americans have been consumed by fear and entitlement...

7. Your right!
We wont sacrifice until we are forced to. I've seen many posts about moving to Canada. This seems to be a sacrifice.

14. that's not a sacrifice
that's escapist.

if people want to leave fine, but that's not a sacrifice. not everyone can afford to move and who is going to be most affected by a bush admin on a domestic level?

it would be a sacrifice to stay and help people who are most affected, agitate for the revolution, to give your tax cuts and free time to social organizations that are going on the byebye, staying involved and active on the US political scene...that kind of thing

They are hidden now.

9. This is the kind of talk I like to hear - good post.
We definitely don't want to repeat bad history because we were discouraged or afraid.

True if you look at what's happening historically. If it weren't for 9/11 this would be just another repeat of Nixon. And we were warned at the time it was only the tip of the iceburg. This is the part that was underwater surfacing finally. It was bound to happen eventually. Still very unnerving though. People will be afraid in times like these. My grandparents told me how terrified they were of the Nazis and the McCarthy witch hunts and the depression. And they made it.

13. Problem is no one should be in the soup line and no one
should be at war. Grandparents sacrificed so you wouldn't have to, but we appear to have failed even though we tried so hard to make progressive change for the future.

17. You said it. We let Grandpa down.
He went to Europe to fight Fascism in '44, and look at us now.

We let the damn Fascists steal our government and all we can say is "I bet Dubya would be real fun to sit down and have a beer with..."
