Can anyone here explain State vs Federal Minimum Wage Laws to me?

I've got to pull this together for work, and I'm really not getting it.

The Federal minimum wage is $5.15 per hour, but in my state, Ohio, the State minimum wage is considerably lower, at $4.25 per hour.

I want to pay our employees $5.15, so what's this $4.25 crap about? And how does Kansas and Ohio get away with a lower-than-Federal wage?

I'm so confused, and more than a little pissed off. Can anyone clear this up for me?

If you'll check the following links, I think this explains it fairly well. I suspect the 2 states you referenced just decided to put the Fed laws into their state laws.

That cleared it up for me, and also answered some other questions I had about illegal deductions for register shortages!

God, the minimum wage in this country is OBSCENE. Immoral. :grr:
