I'm weary of the TANG talk too, but I just had a thought
After reading how Killian's secretary said that the documents were fake but that the content was accurate, something occurred to me: Could it be that CBS/Rather actually do have the originals, possibly handwritten notes or audio tapes of Killian's?

Dan Rather is a smart, experienced journalist close to retirement. He's also a Texan who has been at odds with the Bush family in the past. He certainly is not unaware of the Bush/Rove/GOP attack machine. Could it be that he has only released a little of what he actually has to allow the WH/GOP to overcommit themselves? To let them start screaming "Forgeries!" along with the Freepers before he releases more....and then more...and then more, until they are buried under a pile of authentic documents?

Maybe I'm just full of wishful thinking, maybe I should be fitted for a shiny hat, but there's a whole lot more to this story it seems.

Some say CBS' proof doesn't add up. Maybe Rather is fixin' to start multiplyin' on them instead.

Dan Rather may close his career not with a bang, but instead a sonic boom.

(That's my only interest in this whole story -- I am frustrated with the focus being taken off of Iraq, our economy, etc., but if there's more out there that can bury Bush as the election draws nearer, I'm all for it.)

1. Maybe...
But if Rather has something up his sleeves, he needs to use it very soon. Even I don't know how he's managed to hold his ground against all the bloviating from the Repig Noise Machine.

3. Could be! The timing of the "forgery!" war cry is certainly
suspect. If memory serves me, I read that the RNM via Freakreap out for the world within about an hour of the documents being posted on the net.

4. I think you're right on target--and I think there's more to come

Maybe it's because I've watched some of the poker tournaments, but I think Dan Rather is playing a little "Texas Hold 'Em" with everyone. In the face of all the controversy with the documents, he's been suspiciously calm.

I don't believe he's dealt his trump cards yet. Either he CAN prove that the docs are genuine, or he can prove that someone tried to set him up. Or maybe he has additional evidence that will definitively seal Bush's fate. Sometimes a poker face can work TOO well, LOL!

5. I Agree, Dan Rather has been around to long
If someone gave him these memo's he surely has more damning info that he is holding back. If the CNN reporters and those of FOX and NBC are to lazy or to insecure to actually investigate the allegations that George W. Bush failed in his committment to ANG during time of war in Vietnam and print or talk the mantra of Rove. They never went after the missing records of George W. Bush and automatically accepted the records that Rove handed them or allowed them to look at for a few brief moments.

Why did George W. Bush lock-up the Presidential records of his Father, those of his as Governor of Texas and then those of William Clinton? How is one President allowed to hide the records of previous Presidents?

There are many individuals that were in the same outfit as GW Bush and were aware of his actions and apparently were aware of clerical work submitted on George W. Bush, 1Lt, TANG. The BFEE can't control or know of each and every person that had contact with the King.
