SLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan Tuesday dismissed a claim by a U.S. counter-terrorism official that the United States and its allies were closing in on the world's most wanted man, Osama bin Laden.

Pakistani media Sunday quoted Cofer Black, State Department coordinator for counter-terrorism, as saying that the United States and its allies have put the al Qaeda leader on the defensive, increasing chances of his capture soon.

But Pakistani Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said Black's remarks were a "political statement."

"We don't have any information about that," Ahmed told Reuters by telephone from Saudi Arabia where he is accompanying Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on an official visit.

And this deserves the "DDDDUUHHHHHH!! award of the week....

I mean they have nearly as much problems colluding with terrorist organizations as Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia; but because they wold play ball with the Bush administration their terrorist ties (and human rights violations) are politily scrubbed over.

3. Oh yeah. I've brought this up several times.
Every other terrorist story lately is about the Gov't catching a Pakistani doing something suspicious. But they, like the Saudi's, get an infinite Free Out of Jail card.

2. It would be political suicide to catch bin Laden before the election,
especially if a terrorist attack occurs after his capture.

Would they have a previously unknown Iranian terrorist mastermind to blame?

Or will the Bush* cabal have to admit that our antagonistic stand towards Afghanistan and Iraq have created far more terrorists than have been vanquished?
