2. We're thinking of moving to Nevada
But a fellow DUer said that it's quite conservative there. What's your take on the political climate? Where's the most liberal areas in the state?

but not as conservative as Scottsdale! (just sold home there) There is a quaint and growing town outside of Reno and Carson City...Gardnerville..always wanted to move there. It USED to be liberal..have no idea now.

missed the Tahoe part...so edited to say...Tahoe is a banana belt compared to where I live now.

7. Lake Tahoe is great, especially Douglas County
Incline Village is very very expensive. At last count the Democrats passed the repukes in registered voters. Nevadans are pegged as very independent voters, they pay more attention to the issues in their local area as a whole than they do nationwide. It is somewhat conservative but how do we reconcile legal prostitution with being conservative? Gambling? They don't. It's a great state.

10. lived at Tahoe
Edited on Sun Sep-05-04 10:33 PM by medeak
on the water...beautiful place but had cabins blowing up across the street cooking up meth. It's pretty diverse. A lot of San Franciscoans come up for weekends as well and own homes..love to own Incline property and have no state income tax. hell...have to edit everything tonight. two glasses of chardonnay is enough!

12. Clark County - metro Las Vegas
Vegas, Henderson, NLV, Boulder City. They seem to be pretty friendly for Democrats. They at least vote Democratic.

Tahoe and Incline Village are very pricey, or so I've heard, pricey like Marin County CA or Sun Valley ID. But that's probably the only other liberal pocket in Nevada outside of the Vegas metro area.

The rest of the state is too right wing to believe...*especially* Elko.

14. okay
Sorry

That was just the impression I got of Elko many years ago...hasn't changed.

But vocal Dems anywhere have my support, especially Dems who are living in strongly Republican areas.

Don't know what the best advice is to give people...on the one hand I'd love to see Dems start moving into strongly Republican areas and turn the tide, on the other hand many liberals would rather live in strongly liberal areas than deal with the siege mentality.

15. It could happen here!
It was called the Elko 800 when I moved here..800 families who controlled the town...now it's changed. We just need a little encouragement for everyone to speak out.
