Is it time to stop watching CNN all together?
I tivo Crossfire everyday it's on. That's about all I can stand. But should we be watching CNN at all? They are sinking further and further into the slime. Watching CNN rewards them. I'm sure they still have a very large audience of people like us watching them, which their advertisers appreciate and pay for.

But why should we continue to support them? I like Crossfire, but I'll get by without it. Is it time to stop watching CNN? I think it is.

1. I Like Carville and Begala
I hate Crossfire. I hate it but I always watch it.

By the way, for all you inventors out there: TV was a good invention. Color TV made it even better. Surround sound was a good improvement. High Definition is great too. The next invention should be somehow making it possible for me to reach into my television and beat the everlasting piss out of Bob Novak.

Can anybody make that happen, please? I'll pay real money.

Until then, I think it's no CNN for me. This afternoon really sealed the deal.

35. Entire night lineup without news
CNN became a major network because of its news reporting. Since it moved to interviews and debates it hasn't been worth watching.

3. Just raises my blood pressure
to try and watch so unless a specific guest is on like Dean or Wes Clark I no longer bother. Lou Dobbs can be good but I'm really out of the CNN habit so I have to remember to watch it.

7. I think I'm switching to them....
It will send a nice powerful message to the complete assholes running CNN right now. It already has started as MSNBC's ratings are increasing at CNN's expense. I would like to continue the bleeding. Maybe I can boycott CNN ad products. I'm sure some right wingers have a nice helpful list.

10. CNN has turned the corner to Entertainment News....
Today, it is a disgrace to the title/term of journalism..

CNN has turned YELLOW.....for YELLOW JOURNALISM.

Their call letters are now a footnote in "Webster's Dictionary" when yellow journalism is referenced..

11. Their ratings are going down
& MSNBC is gaining...the article was posted here several days ago.

Were you part of our big contact CNN, about 2 weeks ago...we deluged them will calls, emails, etc.

They want to be FOX Light...fine, but they will not get FOX viewers.

My exception: Newsnight with Aaron Brown...he is terrific.

12. My advice...
I would keep watching to see Carville and Begula, that is, unless you are one of the Nielsen households. I don't think your viewership is accounted for (in a negative or positive light) unless you are one of the select households who are surveyed.

I'm happier without them, and Fox, and CBS, NBC, ABC, etc.; if enough people quit watching to bring their ratings down, we might see some changes.

27. exactly, LW
turn them all off. I did. The only way I know what's going on at CNN is through DU but I never tune in. Selection 2000 did it for me and I have never looked back. I wrote them ages ago and as part of the recent DU effort (amended a previous letter), but it does no good. Hit 'em where it hurts ... in the pocketbook. Don't look.

TURN them all off. You'll have greater equanimity and get more done.

16. CNN is what got me here
because their coverage of the 2000 election had me glued to the screen, and they had it 24/7. Never lost my interest in what was going on in the US since.

Here in Europe they're the only US channel that is widespread.

I have turned away in disgust since they started beating their war drums, and instead started coming here for US news.

Ocasionally, they'll have the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, if I zap past it I of course watch it. But then I get freaked out by some Saudi commercial and turn away again...

17. CNN's mistake is equating boring...
...with integrity. If CNN valued truth and didn't just see its job as regurgitating both side's press releases and calling it a day, I'd watch them over the glitziest "Countdown" show. I wouldn't have to go to the "Daily Show" to cut through the BS. The Dailly Show is still entertainment - the second someone in one of Stewart's interviews starts to say something, he cuts them off with some joke - but they still will call a lie a lie.

What do we have with CNN? All the irresponsibility of FOX, with all the entertainment value of Newshour. So watch Newshour and NPR. (Unfortunately, the conservatives are dismantling PBS as well).

What no one will dare try is a a hold-no-punches show that's not conservative. They won't do it. You see what they did to Moore when 9/11 came out. You see what they're doing now to Hardball. You see how every cable outlet that might sell to Gore suddenly pulls out. There's a seething market out there for someone to not push the White House script, and everyone's terrified to fill it because they know there will be payback from the right, in the form of intimidation and unfavorable legislation. It's not market driven, it's power driven.

If Bush wins a second term, their control of government will be so tight that our media will be like any third world dictatorship's.

But mostly based on what others have said here: I cant stand watching their bald faced sycophancy ....

MY question is: WHY havent we protested at CNN itself ? ..

Every morning, on the set of that gawdawful 'American Morning', the windows behind the 'actors' seem to be accessible ... are they ? ...

Can we NOT storm the CNN palaces with signs and show them what a Peasants Pitchfork Parade really looks like ? ...

(Note to Agent Mike: I didn't mean REAL pitchforks .... metaphor, my friend ....)

38. What Kagan said is unforgivable.
There's been zero hard evidence that Kerry didn't deserve his awards, the official records show that he did, the entire boat thinks that he did, yet some asshole writes a book, has proven to be a liar on numerous events, and this bitch thinks that she can cast doubt with her opinion. Well fuck her, and fuck CNN. What she said is no different from what those male and female airheads say on Faux and Friends.

If we could just get Lou Dobbs to move to MSNBC, or better yet, to CNBC to get rid of Kudlow and Kramer I would quit CNN completely. It would be nice to get ahold of people who they monitor for the Nielson rating and get them to quit watching CNN.

28. I think AOL Time Warner needs to be investigated
Talk about owning too many media outlets - they own AOL, all the CNNs, Time, HBOs, Turner Broadcasting channels like TNT, etc, and more.

Do they also own A&E and History Channel? There also is a Time Warner cable company. Any newspapers?

Kerry, if elected better darned well reregulate the media, and limit what can be owned by whom.

34. That's terrible!
I wonder what it's going to take to get this new version of Monopoly out of America. I feel like we've returned to the 1890's, but instead of oil and railroads, it's media tycoons controlling things and it has nothing to do with pure capitalism. I fear that if they squelch the message, then we are doomed. Who can 'muckrake' in this environment? We'll need to clone Michael Moore.

I have never in my life had to change channels so fast and often. Iam hoping, praying, begging ,that bush does not get elected. I just cant stand listening to him spew his lies and deceit ,his swaggering walk, like some tough guy. Us that know better are well aware he is a small minded person who lacks the ability to think beyond what best for himself, and he is not even efficiant at that. I could go on and on ,however I think you get the jist of it. What is amazing most of all ,is that any thinking person can defend this idiot in office. How they can take a miserable failure, and try and convince others he has done a terrific job. Lets face it the only way to make others believe he is doing a good job ,is by lying about the facts ,bending twisting the truth to fit their jiv !
