Pete McCloskey (R) on Tweety: Kicking *'s ASS & Supporting Kerry
He is absolutely killing bush and cheney.

There's too much to report. You've got to see it to believe it. Highlights:

"Here's two guys who dodged the war attacking a guy who volunteered to go."

"W's dad would never be doing this."

"Politicians are venemous and vicious today...I don't like many of them."

He tore bush/cheney new assholes that you could drive a Swift Boat through.

1. They should take his interview
and play it as a commercial for Kerry. Wonderful interview.

5. Former republican congressman from California.
He ran against Nixon for the 72 nomination on an anti-Vietnam war message (and lost, badly).

7. Thanks, I just googled him and found some very
interestings news about Pete McCloskey..and he was the co-founder of Earth Day and he wrote this article ..

From SanFranciscoGate ..July 4, 2004

Sen. Max Cleland of Georgia, a multiple amputee combat veteran of Vietnam, was castigated as unpatriotic when he opposed a part of President Bush's war policy in Iraq. A true war hero, John McCain, rose to his defense, but was himself later castigated as unpatriotic by House Republican Majority Leader Tom DeLay when he opposed another administration policy of refusing the honor of a public reception to wounded soldiers returning home.

Ironically, the politicians who most eagerly use the term "unpatriotic" have often declined to take the risks taken by Nathan Hale and the signers of the Declaration of Independence: facing hostile rifle and artillery fire, or worse, being hanged. Dick Cheney, Tom DeLay and George W. Bush somehow never chose to face machine-gun or artillery fire during the wars of their own youth."

11. You were not alone
My brother and sister-in-law did the same thing. I would have followed, had I been old enough to vote. I was old enough to get drafted but to young to vote.

4. McCloskey is a contemporary of JK and knew him in 'Nam.
"JK was an idealistic person..."

"No one gets a Silver Star that didn't merit one. Many who merited them didn't get them because no one saw their heroism. But if you got a SS, you were a hero."

Anyone know if the video is available on the Internet somewhere? I have checked Hardball and MSNBC - probably too early to find it. I have got to send the video to every single one of my republican friends - tonight.

12. Well, maybe,
if the horror gets bad enough and goes on long enough. Unfortunately, many more will die before those on the margin will actually be marginalized.

13. McCloskey is from the days when there was an actual
Republican party. Believe it or not, Kiddies, there used to be people known as liberal Republicans, moderate Republicans, and conservative Republicans. You could actually talk to these people and find you would disagree on some things and agree on a lot more. The people that today call themselves conservative Republicans are neither conservative nor Republican. They are hard right wing radicals. Most are just a couple steps from the militia movement. People that formed the heart and soul of the Republican party over the years - Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Charles Percy, Jacob Javits, and Pete McCloskey - have nothing in common with todays Repigs. At one time, Democrats and Republicans both wanted the best for this country. They might differ some on how to get there, but they were all working for the same thing. I firmly believe today's Republican Party want to turn this country into a theocratic dictatorship.

21. McCloskey ran against NIXON in '72!
The guy knew a crook when he saw one. The Republican Pete McCloskey of San Jose, Calif., tried for his party's nomination in 1972. He IS a good man.

McCloskey, a USMC officer during the Korean War, also put Pat Robertson, the TV-preacher-rip-off artist, in his place when he ran for president in 1988. McCloskey told the story about how Pat's dad got him off the Marine transport in Yokohama on the way to the fighting in Korea. Seems Pat is a chickenhawk of the first order as many of his men got killed and wounded. McCloskey didn't forget. Here's the story:

in the 1967 special primary when the seat came up to become the Republican nominee.

22. Any way to contact McCloskey?
I would just like to send him a quick note to thank him for speaking the truth. He was superb on Hardball tonight. A voice of reason in all this mess.

I guess I'm too young but I didn't know they were decent Republicans like this guy out there. Thanks for you guys that have posted about a time when there were. It's really sad the state that we find ourselves in today. My generation will only have the hate to remember.

Hats off again to Mr. McCloskey! I am going to take the time to Google him tonight and read more about his service in Korea.

Mccloskey was from the time when the Republican party was filled with

24. Yep, I e-mail Tweety as well.
It was a great show. Laughed my ass off at the rest of the panel laughing at Pat Buchanan!

Hopefully we will see more of McCloskey. He is a voice of reason and makes a great guest.
