New Flashback ~ Political snafu in S. Carolina as 21 polls fail to open
I'm trying to collect up stories like this.
I either hadn't heard or had forgotten about this one.

From CNN
Excerpt: Some Greenville County, South Carolina, voters found their polling stations closed on Saturday even though the state's Republicans had promised that volunteers would staff all precincts.

Ballot box access in the Palmetto State is particularly important to Arizona Sen. John McCain, who has courted votes from "Reagan Democrats" in South Carolina's GOP primary, which is open to all parties.

The Democratic Party recently sued to ensure that all the state's polling places were open on Saturday. Under a consent agreement approved Monday by a three-judge federal panel, the GOP pledged to open all state voting places.

Democrats had challenged the GOP primary on grounds that the Republicans would violate federal law by not opening all polling places, especially in predominately black areas. But volunteers failed to show up at 21 of the more than 130 polling precincts in Greenville County, a Republican stronghold. Three were black-majority precincts.
