5. Thanks for this posting ...
I've already added a couple of sites to my "must read" list. Keep 'em coming!

BTW, in case anyone is intersted, I use Maxthon as my web browser. It lets you create "groups" of your favorites, so when you open the group all of those "members" open in different tabbed windows. Very slick for checking multiple sites at on a regular basis.

6. I use FireFox and that
has good tabbed browsing if you get the extension package.

But in my case the only "group" I open all at once is hehehehe the daily comics......

11. Good Idea
I lost all my bookmarks a while back and still don't have most of them, so this will be useful. Not mentioned yet are www.truthout.org and www.alternet.org., both of which I read most days.
I find the Economic Policy Institute website useful: www.epinet.org

13. My list
besides du.

www.dailykos.com
atrios.blogspot.com
www.talkingpointsmemo.com
scoop.agonist.com
www.juancole.com (daily analysis of middle eastern affairs)

If there's something good in the blogosphere, I'll usually see it in either kos or atrios. I used to visit buzzflash daily in 1999 or 2000 or so, but I just got tired of their sensationalist headlines. Call me conflicted by my inner republican, but I want my news unfiltered by assertions of treason unless warranted, and I'd guess the number of times it's been warranted in this administration to be about 10, not 1000.

I have become addicted to DU and Bartcop is a rowdy crazy guy who I can relate to. There are disagreements on both sites, but issues are(usually) debated intelligently.

23. The Progressive site -- published since 1909,

that's right, 1909, The Progressive is a great magazine available for only $12 for 12 issues a year. They have articles by people like Howard Zinn, Kevin Phillips, Molly Ivins, plus their staff writers. As someone who first subscribed in the Sixties (after being given a one-year subscription as a gift by a college prof!), I keep trying to turn DUers on to it. They'll send you a free issue if you ask.

The Progressive's website has articles from the magazine plus a regularly-update "McCarthyism Watch" and "This Just In" from the editor. Check it out!

http://www.progressive.org

Others I read regularly:

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com

http://www.counterpunch.org

http://www.jimhightower.com

http://www.blackcommentator.com

These are sites to explore when you have time to read longer articles:

http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com

Huge site, with many links to articles, discussions of books, etc., etc. So much to read, so little time! ;-)

http://www.conceptualguerilla.com

The guy who does Conceptual Guerilla doesn't seem to be updating that site but it has many articles worth reading. For starters, he'll help you understand that conservatives are all about cheap labor (and should be called "cheap labor conservatives.) Everything they do is in the cause of cheap labor (which, naturally, they want from others, while they get rich.)

Conceptual Guerilla also has a forum and he posted an article today exploring the SmearVets attacks on Kerry and why (and how) Kerry must respond. It also details a LTTE he wrote about this issue.

27. I like to check in at mediamatters
That way, you can read some debunking on what the right is saying without actually having to listen to it.

www.mediamatters.org

Michael Moore's website has some mews stories in its "Must Read" section as well, although there is plenty of overlap there with common dreams and buzzflash.

30. More into news
I spend very little time on "political" sites of any side, most propoganda, even that I agree with, turns me off. I'd much rather spend my time on real news and information and make decisions for myself. I do check out the official sites of the DNC and DLC and other organizations like that to stay on top of their "spin" on the issues.
And I have a crippling addiction to reading the opinions of other common folks like myself, lots of computer discussion groups and letters to the editor sections of newspapers. Those are much more interesting than "political" sites to me. And this is the first time I've seen this one (got the link from an email to a discussion group I help run) and it's pretty cool so far.

33. Heh, wrong Columbia I think
Columbia, Missouri.

And "Cowboy" as in Oklahoma State, not Dallas, by the way...although also as in boots and horses and trucks and stuff like that. Grew up on Roy Rogers movies and still love being a cowboy, although sadly I'm stuck with JUST trucks and boots and stuff. Can't ride horses any more, had surgery on my neck and can't ride, and probably couldn't anymore anyway, arthritis in my back. Bummer!
Thanks for the nice welcome.
