| if lieberman wins the nomination.... |
|
here's a big hypothetical question:
obviously it's highly unlikely (thank god!) for lieberman, but, if holy joe were to get the democratic nomination and the greens then drafted dennis kucinich (also highly unlikely that dennis would leave the democratic party) who would you vote for in 2004?
|

So a guy posts a hypothetical question and he gets flamed and gets ridiculed for it being stupid. Give me a break! Not everybody here can be a poli sci major and compare the economic policy make-up of Reagan and Bush with Adam Smith's laissez faire theory. Not everybody can make an online thesis about the inaccuracies of comparing Howard Dean with George McGovern. Not everybody can be a professional analyst and be articulate with their views as well as the next person. DU is a forum for everybody that wants to voice an opinion and ask a question no matter how ridiculous and absurd it might be. As long as they are not disrupting anything, it should not be a problem. These personal attacks and criticisms must go!

and i'm sorry for posting the question here....i wasn't aware that it had been posted already so many times. it was a hypothetical question to see what it would take for kucinich bashers to admit they'd vote for him.

"would you vote for Lieberman if he wins the nomination?" has been asked hundreds of times, and I don't see how it matters who the Green candidate is since they won't win anyway. If you find the Dem candidate so bad you must vote Green I don't see why it matters who the Green is. Also Kucinich would never do that since he wants Bush out and knows nothing good would come from him running on the Green ticket.

Frankly I REALLY might vote for Bush. If somehow dems vote Lieberman in as the dem nominee we DESERVE another four years of Bush. I will look at it like this -
1. Lieberman has a chance in hell of winning anyway. It will probably be a land slide Bush win. 2. The democratic party will be dead. 3. Democrats don't want to win. 4. The nation needs a good wake up call - i.e. another 4 years of Bush.
and on the bright side of another four years of bush should it happen I look forward to -
1. The republican party being dead after bush gets four more years to wreak havoc on the nation and world. "republican party" will be as negative a phrase as "nazi party" is. 2. The Greens will be the new liberal party OR the Greens will assimilate what is left of the democratic party. 3. We won't have to worry about another conservative president for at least a decade.

And I don't even really like the guy. However, the fact remains that if Lieberman is in:
Ashcroft is out. Rumsfeld is out. Cheney is Out. Condoleeza Rice is out. The Bushes are out.
Those are good enough reasons for me to vote the Democratic candidate any day, no matter who it is.

Lieberman might be worse than Bush.
If Bush wins, some Democratic senators might develop spines and oppose Bush judicial nominees.
If Lieberman wins, I think it is entirely possible that he would nominate judical candidates that would be as bad as Bush nominees. Would Democratic senators opposed them?
If Lieberman wins, I think it is entirely possible that he would support Bush policies regarding Iraq. Would Democratic congressmen oppose these policies.
Same question, Patriot Act and its progeny.

wouldn't that be just as bad as the repukes? doesn't it make you sick that they fall in line behind bush simply because he is the chosen malleable mouthpiece for the GOP? why would you want to be like one of them? lieberman sucks...does he represent you or your views? kucinich, on the other hand, has been marginalized by the dlc (among others) as being a radical despite the fact that his entire platform is based on democratic party values. he's not a radical at all! it's just that the dems are moving to the right because they're afraid of being labelled unamaerican by a bunch of chickenhawks, felons and traitors. lieberman and other repuke-lites aren't going to save us from bush...they're only dragging us deeper into the mess.
i guess the dlc mindf*ck is working on even some DUers. sad, really.

Sorry. Joe is more of the same. Furthers the problem and pushes the Dems further to the right. If the DNC and DLC learn they can win with Joe they will not even take the time to look back as they leap into the hands of the corporations.
The trouble here is not George. Its not Cheney. Its corporate funded candidates handing the world over to the CEOs. Our new feudal lords. We either face them down now in the voting booths or its going to take a real revolution to get rid of them.

and that if touch screen voting becomes a reality before the primaries, Lieberman will win the nomination handily. The BCFEE knows for a fact that Lieberman is the single best opponent for them in the field and that they would be able to claim a mandate if he is the opponent. Any other Democrat means they at least have to make a show of it being close. Remember, this only holds true if those evil voting machines are in place.
That said, in your scenario, I would vote for Kucinich hands down.

Lieberman if he received the nomination. In the recent months he has taken a hard turn to the right. His record is borderline acceptable, but he has officially gone of the deep end.
If Kucinich received the nomination I wouldn't vote for him either. He's way to far to the left for me.
I can't support either of those extreme agendas. I'm a Democrat, not a Republican or a Socialist.
And I'd never vote third party, especially not for the Greens.
All of this is moot, though, since neither DK or Lieberman will get the nomination. I suppose I'd write in Gore's name as a protest vote in an extreme situation like that. I would also be out there protesting with other moderate liberals (we're the majority of the party) to reclaim control of the party. But again, all of this is hypothetical and very unlikely. One of the moderates -- Kerry, Dean, Edwards, Graham, Gephardt -- will win the nomination, and will be easy to vote for.
