the thug is doing a good job lying off his ass. I've never seen him before.

11. Repub Scum, Setting Date for Withdrawl, "demoralizes our troops."
Gee, I guess we should worry more about hurting our soldiers feelings and KEEPING them there to be KILLED instead.

Now who is being sensitive?

Soldiers, would you rather be DEAD or have your ego bruised and be pulled out of a WAR ZONE and be ALIVE.

Now he is repeating this '30 nations in Iraq' line. THIS IS INSANE! I wouldn't be able to keep my cool if I were Devine.

30. give Eva Zahn some RARELY deserved credit on that
she got a RISE out of TE when she caught his little 'giving aid and comfort' to Iraqis sneezle during his screed, and tried to give Tad a chance at it, but TE CUT her OFF!

anybodyt else catch that?

22. Very split in Stark County
Edited on Wed Aug-18-04 08:09 PM by coalminersdaughter
It was Bush country the last time; and the pioneers and rangers from Stark want to see it stay that way.

edit: Stark is called the bellweather county in the bellweather state.

32. VJ, when you watch replay, see if you can bear reading my post
number 31 here, as I noticed a few things that dem strategerists might want to pay attention, if they think that this crowd is at ALL representative of the state/nation at large

they were definitely not pro Kerry, so their reactions on several points were especially instructive

have to wade through post to see, though

It's almost difficult to refute because there is so little fact that they have even tried to spin.

24. Yep, Devine had to simply say, 'that's false' or 'that's not true'
pretty often. I like the way he encouraged people to look up the facts on their own after the show.

If people look up the truth they can't possibly side with Bush. Facts are not on his side.

31. some thoughts, on semi-careful attention paid, with a few points dems
should pay attention to

I watched most of it, and MUTED Tucker Eskew's longwinded, mendacious remarks most of the time, as they often had nothing to do with the subject at hand. I'll even give Eva Zahn some partial credit for cutting him off a few times.

That said, the meeting was instructional for me on three points I can think of, off top:

one) the questions WERE unfairly alotted. They included THREE in a row designed to put dems on the defensive....that Vietnam one, followed by a medical account question (which I could have answered better, like this: those are FINE for reducing your high premiums. They're FINE, until you need to pay for surgery/hospitalization, or something similarly expensive.....my GM was in the hospital in May for ONE day-- angiosplasty in her leg.....the bill was over 23 THOUSAND dollars, just for radiology/surgery!). the third question was that idiotic meme about the high cost of medical malpractice insurance, which Tad blew again, partially, by not saying how SMALL a percentage of health care costs it represents~two percent, and that lowering malpractice judgments has NO effect on premiums. he did mention that the government should crack down on insurance companies, which did garner some applause.

two) pay attention to audience reactions. the two biggest responses occurred at these points, and I think they're critical
the first was when Tad, in answer to why the campaign ads are so negative, said that the Kerry campaign was much LESS so than Bush's, to which the audience started laughing a bit. Then, when he said that they had NEVER seen a negative ad with John Kerry's name/face on it, they broke up in disbelieving laughter. He tried to counter with the fact that the Bushes have spent over a hundred MILLION so far on negatives, but they didn't believe that, either, judging from their reaction. The point I learned from this is that it DOES NOT MATTER who goes negative the most, or earliest. This, supposedly representative audience is too STUPID to tell the difference, so WHY take the high road, or at least refrain from answering back in kind?

the second part of this one involved that scumboat Eskew's defense of *'s supposed Education program. When he blathered on about how great a job he's done in making schools great, the audience BOOED! then jeered, made restive noises til Paula shut em down. It was Hilarious, AND instructive, from the standpoint that the Kerry campaign should be paying attention to this very important campaign issue, and take HEED that they can go negative on this, as the audience reacted VERY strongly to Eskew's BIG LIE. Use what works, boys.

three) it was so important that I forgot. Must've been the need for lots of bucks into memory research

so, I thought, as bad as Zahn can be, and as slanted as the format was, it was actually more useful than one might think, superficially, especially on point of education, negative ads, and, to a lesser degree, health care (but it might have worked out better, if Tad had done a better job nailing that idiotic medical savings BS)
