Leftist Lies - Help debunking/replying to this garbage, please
I am exhausted. Part of me wants to type in "Where are the lies? Where is the proof?" but I'm hoping that someone else has the energy to approach this. Yeah, yeah, I realize that it is probably hopeless and all that. I'm just too tired to come up with something witty.

A Litany of Leftist Lies
By Jacob Laksin
FrontPageMagazine.com | August 13, 2004

Perhaps the least surprising moment of the recent Democratic National Convention—other than Michael Moore’s red carpet treatment—came when Ted Kennedy labeled Bush administration officials “false patriots.” Over the past several months, the “Liberal Lion” has done everything but accuse the President of treason, stating, among other things, that Operation Iraqi Freedom was fought “under false pretenses,” and that the plan to rid Iraq of Saddam was “cooked up in Texas” and sold with “lie after lie after lie.” Freeing Muslims from a murderous sociopath, Massachusetts' second most liberal Senator has bellowed, was “one of the worst blunders in the history of U.S. foreign policy.”

Listening to Kennedy and his Democratic cronies, one would never guess that deposing Saddam Hussein used to be a bipartisan concern. From the moment the Clinton administration signed the 1998 Iraqi Liberation Act, which codified “transition to democracy in Iraq” as official policy, to the October 2002 vote authorizing the president to use force against Iraq—a vote backed by 29 Democratic senators and 126 Democratic representatives—the necessity of regime change in Iraq was a rare point of agreement between the two parties.

But in the heat of this year’s presidential campaign, that principle has become disposable. Kennedy’s wanton demagoguery reflects the chief article of faith of the Left, that the justifications for war—especially Iraq’s pursuit of WMD’s and the Baa’thist regime’s ties to terrorism—are no longer defensible.

*snip*

Lie #1: President Bush intentionally misled the nation when he stated that Saddam had sought yellowcake uranium in Niger.

5. That works quite well
Perfectly, in fact. Just what the doctor ordered. Combined with the IISS study about terrorism increasing, not decreasing, it made my night.

Thank you very much.

2. Hey, don't let them make you stalk their "stalking points"
Stalking Points: Also known as "bait and switch," Rethuglican attempts to divert any logic based discussion of politics with inflammatory non sequitur.*

This technique forces the opposing debater to "stalk" the rethug through a wilderness of inflammatory insults, labels and accusations with no pause for factual debate.

* Following a statement with totally unrelated statement.

6. You're right, you're right.
I did just throw something back about being asked to prove a negative. It did feel very good.

I'm having a spirited discussion at the same time about Kerry "lying" about two things. It started out as three things, but I promptly discarded one (they were trying to argue a future action Kerry may take as a lie :) )

The other two items are about his website listing him as a Vice Chair of the Senate Select Committee and about him being in Cambodia in Christmas of 1968. It's fairly entertaining stuff, but I can't fight two battles at once.

4. Or make them work as hard as you
I'm a sucker for debunking rethug e-mail but I also send the repuke a list of Anti-Bush stuff for them to rebuke.

No wonder you're exhausted. They got you on the defensive.

7. Actually, it's quite interesting.
The person who posted it is annoyed people suggesting that Bush is a liar. The person refuses to even entertain the suggestion.

This was that person's attempt to counter the idea that Bush could lie.

8. Bait and switch? Outright attack!!
I have spent a good amount of time posting on a conservative forum, trying to be a moderate voice of reason....and have had my arguments ignored and be slandered as a leftist, a communist, and worse. They especially hate it that I am an active Duty US Army soldier who doesnt hold to the whole GOd, Amurka, and Mommas Apple pie....it scares them that free thought could exist in the armed forces.

9. Welcome to diversity
Although liberal leaning we got all kinds here. If you're polite and honest you'll won't have much problem (there are some of us who are a bit sore about right wing wacko attackos).

Have a good time and welcome to DU. And thanks for serving.

Yup. I can imagine to the average neocon conscript that'd be pretty scary, indeed!

12. LOL....There are more of us than you realize!!
Most soldiers when the cameras are rolling never say anything bad about the government or the president. Here is why. Before the interview, hand picked soldiers are coached, and told not exactly what to say, but everything not to say.....Even if they try to say what they want to anyway, it gets censored out. Most of your average conservative likes to think that soldiers are all highschool drop outs and dumb farmboys from the midwest...it terrifies them to think that we in the uniform are liberal, free thinking, and mad as hell at the way our benefits are being cut as we are being sent away from home for longer and longer periods of time. Yet when they start the draft, they will blame us who got out after all this abuse for not staying in longer.....Cuz that is republican gratitude for ya....

13. Yah, I kind of figured as much.
However, from everything one sees on TV, it looks looks like you brave folks over there are all of one mind and it's pretty scarey to think that mind looks anything like Bush, Rumsfeld, et al. You have absolutely made my day and raised my optimism quotient a bunch. Thankee kindly, sir!

14. Just doing my job......
Someone has to set the record straight. Otherwise, both sides would be trying to pimp the image of american troops like so much advertising fodder. American soldiers are just like american people: We come from everywhere, all colors, religions, types, and political persuasions. So the claims by the repugnicants that we are all right wing christian conservatives is angering to say the least...Personally, I am a tattooed, gun toting, white trash raised wiccan from south louisiana!!Hate the war, but support the troops!!

16. Now this is getting weird
While I was in Seoul last September October I met quite a few disgruntled (at Bush) Soldiers in the bars at Itaewan. I also met a few wiccan soldiers. I was surprised at how many there are of each in our modern military.
