Anybody interested in "responding" to freeper troll in DU?
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 07:32 PM by Hoping4Change
The following is a first post for Detokaal (post #12) who has issues with Kerry's response on 9/11:

Here is Kerry’s reply on July 8 to Larry King who asked him what he was doing on September 11th:

"I was in the Capitol. We’d just had a meeting—we’d just come into a leadership meeting in Tom Daschle’s office, looking out at the Capitol. And as I came in, Barbara Boxer and Harry Reid were standing there, and we watched the second plane come in to the building. And we shortly thereafter sat down at the table and then we just realized nobody could think, and then boom, right behind us, we saw the cloud of explosion at the Pentagon. And then word came from the White House, they were evacuating, and we were to evacuate, and so we immediately began the evacuation."

Since the South Tower of the World Trade Center was struck at 9:03 a.m., and the Pentagon was hit at 9:43 a.m., this means that Kerry along with several other members of the Democratic Senate leadership sat together at a table in a daze for a full 40 minutes, unable to act, unable to think.

1. Kerry WASN'T the President!
What the hell can a mere senator do anyway? They have no authority to order planes to be shot down. No executive orders.

Senators just pass legislation, and there's really nothing they can do in the event of an emergency. The President, on the other hand...

2. Trying to prove that Kerry is as dumb as W still means Bush is an idiot.
These people can't defend Bush, so they try to pretend that everyone is
like him! Not hardly, thank god.

4. um,
it's not the senators' responsibility to scramble fighters, communicate with NORAD, convene a meeting with secdef and nsa, and talk to the nation. The guy whose job that is sat stunned for 7 min, then hung around the school for another 15, then boarded a plane and headed away from his office and from trouble, while posing for a publicity photo. He later lied about his plane being a target.

5. I love tearing this shit apart...
please note that no where does it say they saw the plane crash into tower one, LIVE... next part... "and then boom, right behind us we saw the cloud..."

Now if you saw a plane slam into a tower... would you after 45 minutes then describe it as "and then boom"?

More like Kerry saw a rebroadcast of the crash... and then boom, right behind us...

What they need to do is find the minutes for the meeting they were in and find what time the meeting concluded... then this Freeper he sat there too shit can be filed with the rest of the shit the RoghtWingers are flinging... in the toilet

9. What the hell was Kerry supposed to do? He didn't have any executive
power. That's the PRESIDENT'S job.

10. It wasn't Kerry's duty to address the Nation
That was Bush*'s duty and he was slow to act upon his duty. I don't think it is a major thing. seven minutes is not a very long time in the scheme of things. This is not a good subject to fight any battles over. Ask if Kerry ever disobeyed an order. We know Bush* did. That is a subject with a little meat on it. If Bush* can get away with disregarding orders then why can't any soldier in active duty now? Bush* had an order to take a required Flight Physical and he didn't show up. He did not "Report For Duty" as directed. If he can get away with it why can't others?

16. As Paul Thompson documents it was longer than 7 minutes
because the video was edited.

"Remaining in the classroom for approximately five to seven minutes is inexcusable, but the video of Bush in the classroom suggests he stayed longer than that. The video contains several edits and ends before Bush leaves the room, so it also doesn't tell us exactly how long he stayed. One newspaper suggested he remained “for eight or nine minutes” —sometime between 9:13 and 9:16, since Card's arrival is uncertain.

When Bush finally did leave, he didn't act like a man in a hurry. In fact, he was described as “openly stretching out the moment.” When the lesson was over, Bush said to the children: “Hoo! These are great readers. Very impressive! Thank you all so much for showing me your reading skills. I bet they practice too. Don't you? Reading more than they watch TV? Anybody do that? Read more than you watch TV? Oh that's great! Very good. Very important to practice! Thanks for having me. Very impressed.” Bush still continued to talk, advising the children to stay in school and be good citizens. One student asked Bush a question, and he gave a quick response on his education policy.
