Moderators for Presidential Debates
Jim Lehrer will moderate the first presidential September 30 in Miami and Gwen Ifill will do the same for the vice presidential one (Cleveland, October 5).

The other two presidential event moderators will be Charles Gibson of ABC and Bob Schiefer of CBS. Gibson will do a town hall in St. Louis (October 8), Schiefer a final regular one in Arizona (October 13).

Gee, let's hope Gibson's as "fair and balanced" as he was with Kerry earlier this year when he was questioned about his medals. :eyes:

No link yet (that I know of). Commission will announce sometime today.

5. You're scared
because Dubyas superior intellect, biting wit and Churchillian command of the English language will so overwhelm that clod Kerry that Dubya will come out of the debates at 90% approval and allow him to win in a landslide. sarcasm

6. Has Rove agreed to three debates?
I hadn't heard that this was finalized. I find it unbelieveable that they would agree to one debate let alone three.

7. Choices ...
Jim Lehrer was tough on Gore last time and gave Bush* a pass.

Accepting what you say about Gibson, then he's also a poor choice.

And Bob Schaefer is said to be a personal friend of the Bushes.

Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy night.

:argh:

12. Lehrer is one of the few fair journalists left.
I don't know about Gibson and Schiefer.

I'm more interested in finding out if the candidates will be told what the questions will be BEFORE the debates or not. I don't even want the candidates to know the subjects of the questions.

George Will said he's amazed that we put so much emphasis on the debates. I'll tell you why I do. It shows me how each candidate thinks on his feet. Quickly and concise. The only way that works is if they aren't advised about the topics. A fake can't possibly be coached enough on every topic, their responses have to come from knowledge and instinct.

16. I'm not worried about three of them
It's Gibson that stands out as a sore thumb---why the hell him??? He's a nothing; but a right wing shilling nothing. However, if memory serves me right, isn't the town hall foremat when they let people ask questions from the audience (after screening them, holding a gun to their heads, etc...you know what I mean). Therefore, isn't it a foremat where Charlie cannot wield a lot of influence?? Just to note: after I saw how pissing mad Kerry was at this bastard, I'm sure Kerry will do a good job of rearranging his face. Suggestion: if Gibson throws him anything like that godawful, shit attack that Russert (I think he was the one) thew at Hilary in the US Senate debates in NY with absolutely nothing comparable to the opponent, I think Kerry should answer quickly and then use the remainder of his time to throw a "slime" question at Bush (sure as shit, Charlie will never throw one).

18. let Gibson ask about Kerry's medals
it will set Kerry up for a homerun and also maybe we can contrast Kerry's service with Bush's AWOL status.
