Should it ever be a crime for journalist to Lie?

If a top national journalist lies and it results in over 10,000 people killed, would that be a crime?

Maybe the journalist didn’t start the lie, they just heard it somewhere and repeated it over and over. Without checking any facts.

And with doing zero source checks.. A journalist goes on the air every single day wanting to kill thousands of people.

Even more than that. The journalist is almost giddy, talking about shock and awe, and fireworks, and killing these people will be a big show!!!

If the journalist doesn’t check any information, ignores all facts that the evidence is fake.

Is that journalist guilty of a crime for actively promoting a lie to kill thousands??

1. They can be sued for slander (spoken) or libel (written) if the said lie

defames someone's reputation leading to potential economic loss and or personal loss. Nothing in criminal court though, and a good thing too, because it would only open the floodgates for censorship in media by government, remember the Spanish American war was also based on a media fabrication, so this is nothing new. This of course excludes the censorship we currently experience due to corporate influence, leading to the lies you have stated.
