Jon Stewart's choice of Novak as his conservative enemy perplexes me
I'm no Novak fan, but I find him to be the least loathesome right-wing host on cable. I find O'Reilly, Hannity, Gibson, Hume, Tucker, Dennis Miller and Scarborough all more contemptable. Am I alone?

1. I see it more as being about Plame. He is a traitor for exposing her.
I agree.

23. It's because Novak is on the side of the guys lying about Kerry's Swift
boat service in Viet Nam...He's dumping on Novak because Novak is championing the Viet Nam Swift boat creeps who have the ad on TV calling Kerry a liar....I've seen Novak do it a couple of times and he has also written a column about it....I think Jon is doing the right thing....This ad is on TV and probably influencing a lot of people!

2. They are all so loathsome that it's difficult to rank them.
But Novakula is particularly loathsome because of his outing of Valerie Plame.

16. but novak seems so damned humorless
that jon will really get to him

hannity would try to charm his way out with his nice guy act
as would o'reilly
rush would just hide in his call-screened cave like he did when al wrote a book about him

novak will lose his mind if jon targets him. remember the take back the media video clip where he went nuts?

17. Novak has been spreading lies for as long as he's been a...
..."journalist". He is a loathsome human being, IMHO.

None of the other bottom-dwellers you mentioned participated in the exposure of Valerie Plame and her network, and I find that to be FAR worse than anything O'Reilly, Hannity, Gibson, Hume, Tucker, Dennis Miller and Scarborough have done to date.

My ranking of the worst puts Novak near the bottom of the slime pit. Granted, it's pretty slimey there, but ...

1. Hannity -- by far the worst, and most typical of the average neo-con hatemongers.
2. O'Reilley -- he tries making nice, but that just makes him so much more insidiously evil.
3.Hume -- why does this man have a job? Did he blow Roger Ailes once, or what?
4. Novak -- when I was young, foolish and Republican I used to trust him. At least he's an honest traitor.
5. Scarborough -- I'd rate him lower on this list, but since he's on MSNBC, which is kinder and gentler than CNN and Fox, he can do more damage.
6. Carlson -- Nobody ever takes a conservative in a bow tie seriously. C'mon, can you honestly imagine some Republican from Mississipi -- Dixie beer in one hand, gas can in another -- all decked out in white sale linens complete with pointy hat, following Tucker Carlson anywhere?
7. Miller -- Where is this guy's head, if it isn't so far up that he's kissing his small intestines? He's lost credibility as a comedian. And "intellectual neo-con" is an oxymoron.

21. Novak's like William Buckley...
...an old school conservative who gets more credit than he should just by surviving this long. He doesn't make much sense, and no one should give him any credibility; but he represents, like Heston in Bowling for Columbine, a specific mentality that needs to be attacked. The critics don't seem to go after Novak as they do O'Reilly or Hannity or Limbaugh, because he has that "I've been around longer than you, son..." barrier around him that a lot of people seem to respect. I say a long term idiot is still an idiot, and has more to answer for. I say we stop referring to him as Novak, but as the "DFL."

25. Oh, no you insult Bill Buckley more than he deserves.
Bill is very much a straight-up conservative, rather than the most evil, slimey, neo-con type.

(From neo-con to old con to ex-con, I say!)

A line from Laugh-In years ago once said something to the effect, "Liberals hate Bill Buckley because he's so smart, and secretly wish he was one of them."

That wasn't the line, but that was the intent. Again, like I wrote earlier, "intellectual neo-con" is an oxymoron, which may be why Bill is retiring.

I liked Buckley's spy novels. They make for some interesting light reading. Particularly the one about Cuba and Kennedy's assasination.

I've often believed Novak leaked thePlame stuff because he was trying to sabotage the Bush administration.

20. I thought he started the vendetta monday, after reading the article
from that day. Novak sided with and gave credence to the swift boat liars in the most partisan style.

(Novak is very high on my list as well)

24. Novak completely offends reason.
All the people you name are bad, but Novak appears innocuous and more "legitimate" than the others. That makes him more dangerous and more offensive, IMHO.

I'm with Jon. Novak is a douchebag for liberty.
