I Am Afraid
Edited on Wed Aug-11-04 08:58 PM by louis c
but not of terrorists.

Oh, I believe there are terrorists that hate America, but my chances of losing my house in a terrorist attack are far less than losing my house to the mortgage company because I can't afford to pay them when I lose my job.

I believe there are terrorists, but the chances of me or my family being harmed by one is much less than being harmed by having no health care.

I believe that terrorists want to take my freedom away, but my chances of losing my freedom to terrorists is much less than losing it to my own government.

Oh yes, I'm afraid. We lived in fear of the Soviet Union for years, but it had little affect on my life.

My greatest fear is that we fail, and Bush is Re-selected, and those things we should fear, become reality.

2. I have the same feelings you do.
That was the perfect post to describe my fear as well.

3. I DO NOT believe that terrorists want to take my freedom away
That is a nationalistic, jingoistic, fear-mongering phrase meant to make us so fearful, angry and vengeful that we allow this "holy war".
Terrorists - the islamic kind - hate our policies, esp when it affects islamic countries and peoples. Until we at least try to understand the culture difference in addition to military force and intelligence gathering, we will only cause more hatred towards ourselves. As long as we have this cheerleader in chief who urges us to be fearful and vengeful without trying to understand we will create more terrorists. Yes, we need to go after terrorists, but we also need to do some honest reflection about our policies.

The people of the world believe the US under W is far more dangerous than we realize ourselves. I too am apprehensive that W might retain power, and then we are truly sunk.

7. It's Hyperbole or
poetic license to get my point across.

Don't take it so literally.

The post, as almost all my posts are, a suggested argument to make when you engage the other side.

There's a greater fear of Bush than the dreaded terrorists.

Get it.

4. You found the enemy.
It wasn't the one they told you was the enemy.

5. Me, too
This morning I started the day with my stomach in knots. It still is. I don't know what did it. The Swiftboat thing, the Bush campaign shutting out anyone but Bush supporters from rallies or something else, but something was the straw that broke the camel's back this week. It seems too important to bear. It seems like life and death for our country. It seems like we've got one last chance to regain it from real evil. I haven't been this generally upset since 911 itself.

6. At least you're not alone.
And this time around, we're all a lot smarter and better prepared than in the 2000 election. No more squatters in the White House, I say.

We'll get through this together and we'll end up with Kerry as president and things will be better then. Hope is on the way...

Believe it, too. I got to meet Elizabeth Edwards at a Kerry Rally in Greensburg, PA. She took my hand and we spoke for awhile and she looked right in my eyes and promised me that they are going to give me back my government. I swear to you, that woman meant it. It wasn't political gribble. Keep the faith!
