How often do you go to the polls and vote?
Once every four years for president, every 2 years for house of representatives, senate, governor and other big elections or all the time for local elections and primaries, etc.?

3. Every single damn time they are open
This Sept. 11 we are having a referendum on whether the city will allow beer and wine sales in grocery stores. I am voting yes.

Even if it is for dog catcher, city council, school board, you name it, I'm there.

5. I try to go to them all
A lot of people only go every four years, but the times that one's vote makes the biggest difference is in the small elections. :hippie:

8. I haven't missed since my first vote - 1966
Voted Democratic in every one except 1968 when I voted for Dr. Spock of the Peace & Freedom Party against Nixon and Humphrey.

Holding my nose, once again, and voting to get the Yellow-Stain-of-Texas and his fellow goobers out of our house.

25. I haven't missed an election since 1962
The first election I might have voted in was 1960, but I moved close to election and missed the deadline to reregister. Tougher requirements in those days.

10. Every single time
Edited on Sun Aug-08-04 04:50 PM by mtnester
General, primary, special..school board, council, referendum, levy, state wide..

It is my personal responsibility to do so, that is my feeling anyway.

I was raised in a household that everyone did the same...with the proviso of "if you don't vote, you can't bitch." Period

On edit - the only time I have missed ANY election vote was when I was giving birth to our only son in 1980 - understandably I was busy, and I still felt bad I had not planned better (he was 2 weeks late, I did not think I would miss the election, so never considered absentee)

11. Almost every time
The only time I don't is if it's some sort of school board thing in an area I just moved to and know nothing about or a similar situation.

13. I live in Oregon - Vote By Mail
Though I always drop my ballots off at the drop-off station at Pioneer Courthouse Square in Portland.

I did miss one local election in the past 12 years of living here, I'm ashamed to say.

Have never missed a general or congressional election since eligible (Montana, Washington DC - which still needs representation in Congress, now Oregon).

15. EVERY. SINGLE. ELECTION.
If my county had an election for dog catcher, I'd read up on the candidates and I'd show up at the polls.

AFAIC this is a requirement of good citizenship. I admit this is a generalization, but I don't trust people who don't vote in at least the bi-annual elections. I trust people who vote Republican more than I trust people who never vote.

20. I am fairly new to politics...and I never voted till Gore in 2000
and I aint no young chick!!! I have only voted in 2002 since for the state representatives...none of whom had ANYBODY running against them!!!! and will vote again in 2004. And will vote every two years from now on. I don't think we have elections in between, but I am on the list for the Democrats to make me aware of what is happening.

21. I've never actually been to the polls
I've always had to vote absentee -- didn't turn 18 until just before college started, have been a full-time student ever since (still working on that dissertation). I've always maintained my registration at my home address, so have always had to vote absentee. Though I admit, I've lived here long enough that I probably should register here...thing is, the university will NOT allow one to establish residence for tuition purposes no matter HOW long you've lived in the state, so on principle I keep my legal residence where I grew up.

26. We could have used your vote
in the last county elections (when the repubs took over the commissioners and the county council). I think that was two years ago. And the already fast pace of development escalated even further!

Please reconsider registering locally - the monroe county dems could use that vote!

23. Pretty regularly,
although not every single election. I missed the last local election because I was in the process of moving and had a new baby (I know excuses, excuses). It was mostly school board and the like, and we got killed! Horrible people got elected! My fault (partially at least) 'cause I didn't take the time to vote. And, ironically, I have been really active in GOTV efforts for the past few months :eyes:

28. I vote every election.
In WA we can register as permanent absentee. I get my ballot weeks before the election and have plenty of time to study the candidates and issues before I vote.

BBV? Not for me.
