Analysis of Terralerts and Bush's Ratings--quite damning!
http://juliusblog.blogspot.com/

There are few things that are quite evident from the chart:

- Whenever his ratings dip, there's a new terror alert.

- Every terror alert is followed by a slight uptick of Bush approval ratings.

- As we approach the 2004 elections, the number and frequency of terror alerts keeps growing, to the point that they collapse in the graphic. At the same time, Bush ratings are lower than ever.

3. Like a drug addict who needs more and more "fixes" to maintain his habit..
The terror alerts are not keeping Bush's poll numbers up where the Bushistas want them. The Bushistas keep issuing more and more alerts but the poll numbers just keep sinking...

4. Those conclusions aren't "quite evident" to me

- Every terror alert is followed by a slight uptick of Bush approval ratings.

- As we approach the 2004 elections, the number and frequency of terror alerts keeps growing, to the point that they collapse in the graphic. At the same time, Bush ratings are lower than ever.

I simply don't see #1 and #2 at all from the data presented. (#3 is definitely true, at least according to the graph.)

5. Looks to me like
at the bottom of the dips in his polls a Terra Lert is made. As time goes on, the bumps to the numbers are getting smaller.

It would be good to blow up the graph so we could see it better, but that's what I'm seeing

7. No
I just went and studied the chart more closely.

The only obvious low-point in Bush approval that coincides with a terror alert is the one in Feb 2003. Bush's spike in approval after that is obviously due to the beginning of the Iraq War and so cannot be attributed to the alert.

For all the other cases, terror alerts either do not coincide with low points, or the low points they do coincide with are tiny blips, and statistically meaningless.

One thing quite clear from the chart is that despite the flood of terror alerts this year, Bush's approval has been essentially unaffected, continuing its steady decline.

6. And they are really scraping bottom to get new excuses for alerts
This closing down part of Manhattan on three year old information, conveniently timed to curb the "convention bump" John Kerry would receive, illustrates just how despirate the terra addicts are getting. This Nixonian strategy of manipulating elections through political office and sheer power is not going to win them friends forever. Someday, even the nuttiest of the nutty are going to get tired of having the pee waddings scared out of them for no reason. Stop crying wolf, boy king. Do something to EARN reelection.
