The UE rate is calculated through the Household Survey of some 60,000 households and is about as scientific of a survey as they come.

benefits work understands that people get kicked off the unemployment rolls all the time. Fewer people on the unemployment rolls doesn't mean more people are working. How many new jobs have been created?
