OMFG! Phil Margo of the Tokens just called Al Franken.
For the uninitiated, the Tokens had a #1 hit in 1961 with "The Lion Sleeps Tonight."

Margo just offered to join the tour that REM, Springsteen, et al, are going on to support Kerry. His reasoning is that the Tokens could attract a demographic (particularly in Florida!) that the other acts probably wouldn't.

Now I have one more reason to love doo-wop music! :bounce::kick:

3. That song is high in the irritating scale, but if they change it to
"The Liar Sleeps Tonight" and anti-bushify* the lyrics, they could rechart and I'd happily hum along!

In the desert, the sandy desert
the liar bombs all night

8. I once wrote an "answer" song to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight."
It was many years ago. All I can remember is:

We're in trouble,
and make it double.
The lion just woke up.

Run your ass off,
or you'll get eaten.
The lion just woke up.
