Women! We have to mobilize again! Under attack from every conservative
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 12:49 PM by LittleApple81
group!
I went to eeewwww "Hannity & colmes" looking for a transcript or video of yesterday's interview with Robert Kennedy Jr. I could not find it but I found this snip of todays? show theme:

Could feminism be destroying your chance for a happy home? Dr. Laura's (search) new book has some startling revelations!.

WHAT HAPPENED TO US THAT IT HAS GOTTEN TO THIS POINT???? In my country they say "shrimp that falls sleep gets carried away by the current."

By the way, Robert Kennedy fought valiantly to discuss the real issues in his environmental book. Sean just wanted to sound horrified because Robert Kennedy was comparing bush's actions to what fascist governments do.

We're talking about our mothers, sisters, wives, and daughters, etc

4. Yep. There's a huge drive to push women back into the 50s
And fundagelicals certainly push as hard as anyone on that subject.

5. You are right. My husband is such a feminist that I have never had
to think about this too much. Men, join us to fight again!

Ah, the great dumbing down of America. It's pathetic.

6. some failed 2 impress,
upon their daughters, the history of the struggle by women. I asked my daughter some pointed questions one day w/ regards 2 that history and was happy 2 know she actually listened and carrying on the fight. The religious rong is opposed 2 any women having any power. squatter reinforces this w/his misogynistic policies, which his fevered followers applaud.

Women NEED their own political party. Until we have that we will continue 2 B marginalized by the Democratic party and ignored by the rethugs.

9. Good idea. I am fed up with this ANTI-WOMEN trend. My daughter
is naturally feminist. She does not dwell on it, she acts on it. she has traveled on her own since she was 15, she speaks her mind, she is responsible, independent, intelligent, and wonderful. I never had to talk expressly about feminism, we lived it at home. My husband and I have been EQUAL partners and helpers... and that is what she saw.

11. Makes me fear...
that Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale" might actually come true. (Women not allowed to read; girls not taught to read; a hierarchy of men over their wives and children, and the highest ranking men get "handmaids" to screw and bear children). <shiver>

That book and "1984" scared the hell out of me, because they both hit so close to what we're experiencing now.

13. It's so discouraging
And we have the pope chiming in on how feminism is undermining the family and promoting homosexuality (interesting stretch there, not sure where that reasoning comes from).

What really depresses me is the number of WOMEN who buy into this bullshit. Feminism is NOT an attack on family or so called family values. It is the idea that we are all equally valuable, men and women, and that we have the right to choose our path in life and be justly compensated for our work, just as men have always had.

14. Exactly. I have lived it at my home and with my kids. At work...
a lot of problems. But we had recourse (we because it was more than one female facing discriminatory situations). With this crap, recourse will be gone.

15. Right. It is also not "playing the victim"
something I hear a lot even here at DU. Feminism is not about victimhood. I don't think that can be stressed enough. Right wingers tend to attack feminism from the "family values" angle, but a lot of otherwise progressive people tend to buy that feminism isn't really needed anymore, and anyone who is now fighting the fight is somehow holding women back, or using sexism as an excuse for their own shortcomings.

If we can't even get the left unified in the fight, how can we even expect to fight the forces on the right?

17. I'm in. If they thought the feminists were bad in the 60's, 70's, 80's &
90's ......they ain't seen NOTHIN' yet! You don't fight for rights to have them be taken away. It will not happen. This shrimp is NOT asleep!

HOW DOES FEMINISM CAUSE UNHAPPY HOMES?????? :grr: Dr. Laura should be ashamed of herself. A happy mom/wife makes for happy children and husbands.

20. Should we form a DUer LIBERATED HUMANS (to include liberated men)
and join a feminist group? I am serious, people. For those of us that are concerned about this (not only because of ourselves but because of our daughters (and sons)) IT SEEMS A MATTER OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE!!!!

18. Proud male feminist ready to mobilize
Until women, blacks, hispanics, gays...until we ALL get treated equally...this cannot truly be called "the land of the free." Its always the same fucking people isn't it? They won't be happy until women are all barefoot and pregnant, gays are safely back in the closet, and minorities are unloading pullman cars and laughing gaily to the fields 6 days a week, 12 hours a day.

I have long known just how angry women are at the way they are treated. Women on both sides of my family, conservative and liberal alike, have always spoken their minds and demanded their equality. But until I was at the "dyke march" in SF in June, I never realized how much anger and pent up frustration there is among women who are demanding an end to their second class citizenship.

It is high time the "fundavangelicals" stop trying to force Americans to adhere to a rosy-tinged portrait of a 1954 that never existed in the first place.

25. It still is. But the USA is defoliating it (agent orange) and poisoning
the population that is not killed by Colombians themselves (we have drug traffic, paramilitary, the army, the government, the guerrilla, the poor people who discovered a long time ago that minimum wage does not feed a family so they mug, rob, attack their fellow citizens (mostly the vulnerable ones, which is the "middle class") because THAT will feed their family... in Colombia they say you cannot leave a hole in the street because it will get stolen).

26. And don't forget that portraying women as victims to be abused or
murdered, is a factor here. Look at all the "missing women" and "little girl" stories. All to portray women as prey or abused and used. Crime happens, family murders happen. But it's used for a political agenda to manipulate us.

This fits into the whole media and right wing agenda to shift attention to a "battle of the sexes."

28. WOMEN ARE THE MAJORITY!
Edited on Thu Aug-05-04 11:16 AM by RedCloud
That is a fact.

That women do not rule in government indicates that democracy has failed the majority EVERY TIME!

That women do not run the majority of corporations indicates that capitalism has failed to provide freedom (Big surprise there, eh?)

While I realize that the vagina is interesting, please do not invaginate topics. Seize power first! Don't let the media and power that be dissuade women from taking power! Power should be #1. Not abortion, not reproductive issues, but POWER! Keep the sex organ issues later! Look at the full woman first!

Put women on the moon! Women pay taxes, get represented.

Men did not get power by saying, "Power to the penis!" They simply usurped it in caveman like fashion.

Other nations have had women in power. Time for the American Empire to modernize its' ancient ways!
