What Has Happened to the Story of Sandy Berger's Exoneration?
I can only find one site carrying a reprint of a WSJ article - and it's a back-door link:shrug:

http://www.kyw1060.com/news_archives_detail.cfm?newsitemid=39459

I wanted to view the WSJ original article, but I don't have a subscription, not gonna pay for one, and BugMeNot.com didn't have any username/password combinations that worked.

I got into an argument with a fundie freeper-type on a mixed board I frequent, and she pointed to a NewsMax article that denied Berger was cleared yet. I don't like being shown up like that - and it really disturbs me to find practically all references to a news story vanished. The best I could do was claim that HER news stories may vanish unexpectedly someday.

Here's the WSJ article, which was buried prominently on page A6.

But, hey... at least they reported it. As far as I can tell, this never even got a mention anywhere else except the site you noted. Sure as heck didn't make the evening news that night.

Berger Cleared of Withholding Material From 9/11 Commission

By SCOT J. PALTROW
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
July 30, 2004; Page A6

Officials looking into the removal of classified documents from the National Archives by former Clinton National Security Adviser Samuel Berger say no original materials are missing and nothing Mr. Berger reviewed was withheld from the commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

Several prominent Republicans, including House Speaker Dennis Hastert and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, have voiced suspicion that when Mr. Berger was preparing materials for the 9/11 Commission on the Clinton administration's antiterror actions, he may have removed documents that were potentially damaging to the former president's record.

The conclusion by archives officials and others would seem to lay to rest the issue of whether any information was permanently destroyed or withheld from the commission.

Archives spokeswoman Susan Cooper said officials there "are confident that there aren't any original documents missing in relation to this case." She said in most cases, Mr. Berger was given photocopies to review, and that in any event officials have accounted for all originals to which he had access.

7. Non-Approved Material will NOT be permitted to be seen in Imperial Pravda
In fact, if I'm not mistaken this Orwellian effort has been SO successful that a Bushevik Bootlicking Editorial Cartoonist ironically did the ususal Bushevik Projection thing about the Old New Lie of the Day.

Observe the madness firsthand...

To Bushevik Bootlicker Asay I say No Dickhead, Sleezy walking off with documents would be as big a story as BERGER CLEARED!

Can you imagine when these MONSTERS have UNCHECKED POWER? What lies will they tell us, what depredations will they perform on us?

Anyone who could draw an Orwellian Cartoon like this would be capable of doing work for Goebbels.

13. No, it's absent-minded
I realize it's your dad and not you, maxsolomon, but what information does he have that Berger took those copies with any malicious intent? After all, since they were copies, it's obvious he couldn't have had in mind that he'd removed anything permanently -- the originals were still in the archive room.

Does dad think Berger's so dumb as to not know the difference? The commission that had charge of the documents said that nothing was lost and no harm was done. Berger said he made a mistake, which I suppose was due to absent-mindedness. What proof does anyone have that there was any more to it than that?

The line being peddled by the Mighty Republican Wurlitzer is so stupid as to be downright insulting. Anyone who swallows this fish tale probably shouldn't be left to go out in public unattended.
