Daddy, what did you do in the war?
My father served in a communications unit. I have a photograph of him doing something or other with a radio. Other soldiers are standing around with rifles.

Gore served in Vietnam as a journalist. There were plenty of opportunities to get shot at or blown up.

Kerry served on a boat, saved lives and was injured.

Dubya was trained to fly obsolete jets then went AWOL.

Then when I was in the second grade, my friend told me that his parents were going on vacation to "Aruba"....The look of horrid shock on my face that my buddy's parents would think of spending a week in hell was memorable
