Do you know any republicans that are voting Kerry and why?
I know one guy, and he changed his mind after seeing F9/11. He was most mad about the Bush school room 7 minutes.

1. At least 7 I can think of.
Edited on Sun Aug-01-04 04:15 PM by Feanorcurufinwe
Although I think some of them are more accurately described as 'former Republicans' at this point. Why? broken promises, Bush is not what he said he would be, Bush can't be trusted, Iraq. Plus a couple veterans who feel solidarity with Kerry.

who's a gun toting fiscal conservative living in the south - But, and this is a big but, he's also an ACLU member who is tired of the administration messing with our civil liberties.

4. Quite a few
They were mad at Bush long before F911. They didn't like how he stole the election, they didn't like what he was doing to Social Security, they were furious about the deficit. They didn't like his arrogant attitude either-one calls him the 'frat boy' and that isn't a term of endearment. These Republicans are, for the most part, not only going to vote Kerry, but they are also mobilized to get others todo the same thing.

5. A friend of mine. He never was much a Bush fan, but says he supported
him after 9-11 and until it became apparent there were no WMDs in Iraq. He's pissed about that and the religious slant of the party. He was very impressed with the comvention. Esp. Clinton ( he said he actually misses him) Obama and Kerry.

6. 2 - One who figured out he been lied to about Iraq and is disgusted with
NCLB; one who doesn't like the radical right having control of all 3 branches of the gov. and intends to vote straight dem for the first time ever.

7. I know of one so far and it's because Bush screwed up in Iraq
This man believed the WMD nonsense. We had arguments about it before the war began. Now, not only does he have to endure my "I told you so" rantings on a regular basis, he doesn't like seeing so many soldiers STILL getting hurt and killed over there. He's a Vietnam Vet and he thinks our soldiers are getting as screwed as he did back in the day...and that my friend is worth changing parties for.

9. yes, one
...long-time good friend, voted for Reagan, both Bushes, probably Dole too. She's voting a straight Democratic ticket in November (we're in Ohio). Her son-in-law is serving in Europe right now, and she's terrified he's going to be shipped to Iraq.

Make that three. Her husband and daughter, too.

10. I know one guy who is a Gulf War veteran
He voted for Bush in 2000 but is up-in-arms about the way military people have been treated by the Bushistas. Now he surfs liberal sites to feed his anger. I ran into him at the cineplex after I saw F911. He was there for the next showing. I don't think he is alone in this turnaround.

12. Posted this before and will post again.
Yesterday, while precinct walking and basicially preaching to the choir other Democrats, we had occasion to run into Republicans, not once but four different ones who said they were voting for Kerry and another one who asked us for information on Kerry because she couldn't vote for Bush again because his policies are ruining her career.

Turns out that the young couple I was precinct walking with were registered independents who had voted for Bush, but now believe they have to be active in getting him out of office before he destroys the country. I'll tell ya, the people on the street are thinking a lot differently than the spin masters on CNN, etc. would like you to believe. They truly are lying and I don't think their polls are truthful.

Also, I'm starting to see bumper stickers appearing and so far they are two to one for Kerry/Edwards, so in my area, a largely Republican county, it seems Kerry is getting two-thirds of the vote according to my bumper sticker poll.

because of jobs and the economy. Also he thinks * is an embarassment everytime he speaks now. And he's getting suspicious about manipulation of the media.

My Dad..."Stupid and trigger happy are a very bad combination honey."
My friend went to see F911 with me, she was really pissed at herself when it was over.."That was me he was talking about, i was ignorant." She took her Dad last weekend, he was teetering anyhow, but that finished him off.

17. My Dad
but he voted for Gore too so he probably doesn't count. I've ran into many others as well. Bush is not conservative. He's a neo-con extremist.

Kerry, as rich and waffly as he is, is the one who represents mainstream America.

19. An aquaintance of mine is switching over for Kerry
He called me to tell me that after being a lifetime republican, he is going to switch over to the Democratic side this time, no matter who would win the nomination. He is in his late 70's. He said he can't take George W. Bush because he's even worse than his father.

20. My brother-in-law and my ex-mother-in-law
She used to throw fundraisers for every Republican who ran in Oklahoma. He's a banker who is conservative. Turns out one of her sons turned out to be gay and the Repugs she supported told her he should have "kept that quiet". My brother-in-law simply says, "Bush is not the one."

all of them the same reason - Iraq

on edit - all of them also use the word "nutjob" when refering to *, all of them voted for him the first time, and none of them will tell any of their republican friends what they plan on doing, although they suspect many of them will be doing the same.

He hasn't really said, but he works at a VA hospital and does a lot of volunteer work with vets. I think he's just tired of them getting the shaft.
