Maureen Dowd according to Drudge (yich, sorry)
DOWD: KERRY CONVENTION LIKE 'GILLIGAN'S ISLAND'
Sat Jul 31 2004 14:08:25 2004

"Given that the Kerry convention featured a skipper brave and sure, a first mate who makes others comfortable, a millionaire called "Lovey" by her spouse, two pretty young Kerry castaways and a movie star (the ubiquitously annoying Ben Affleck), I suppose we should be grateful that Camp Kerry didn't introduce the nominee with the "Gilligan's Island" theme song."
DOWD: KERRY CONVENTION LIKE 'GILLIGAN'S ISLAND'
So mocks NYT TIMES Op-Ed Queen, and soon to be bestselling author, Maurren Dowd.

"Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip."

Dowd is set to fire off her latest Sunday column to the unwashed media savvy.

"At least Teresa Heinz Kerry kept her subliminal message simple: She wore a ketchup-red suit to introduce the second senator in her life.

"Her husband, as usual, went overboard. The Democratic convention, which was focus-group-dial-a-metered to death, needed a dose of dramamine."

Impacting...

On TV the other night, she looked like she'd been around the block way too many times - washed out, depressed....who's her new boyfriend, some pusher or something? She looked strung-out...

1. Sorry she didn't fucking like it...maybe she'll be kinder to
the repuke convention since she obviously doesn't give a shit.

2. I don't get the appeal of Maureen Dowd
To anyone. Her writing is not as great as the New York Times seems to think it is. And in terms of substance, there's barely anything there.

4. I think she's on her last legs...
it's not clever, it's not funny, it's not even true, for crying out loud. what is the media complaining about - they got theri scripted show - this is what they always wanted; political entertainment. If it didn't run like this, they'd say that the party was being disrespectful to the Amurkin peeple.

6. What gets me is that she doesn't address anything in her piece
It's just stupid. You would think that someone on the editorial board would smack themselves in the head and tell her to turn something of value in. But then again, this is the same editorial board that allows David Brooks a column.

23. There's never substance. It's just snarky, bitchy crap like that sampled
above. Some people here seem to like her because she seems to skewer the Repubs almost as often as the Dems.

But to me she's like the NYT Op-Ed version of Mr. Blackwell, the guy who does that "Worst Dressed Celebrity" list.

To me it's a disgrace for the NYT to feature people like this. And Tom Friedman. And David Brooks. And Judith Miller.

11. She's jealous of not being married
Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 08:56 PM by PCIntern
like these other ladies are...

She's a snob - I've known a thousand like her - where I went to school you throw a stick out a window and hit 50 girls/women like her- some brains, some looks, lots of snobbery. and look where it got her - see, MoDo, as the great Sharon Stone once said...you can only sleep your way to the middle.

She is beginning to remind me of Don Rickles. She is ripping off his borsh belt act.

26. But at least Rickles was friggin' hilarious!
The only comic funny enough to get away with saying the most vile things about Frank Sinatra right to his face in a crowded room and have him laugh at it.

Rickles was a pallbearer at the Chairman's funeral.

I think she's just trying to get her name in the news so people will buy her stupid book!

16. I'm not sexist - I was raised by a single mother
long before in was in fashion to be thusly reared...

but she is an example of a woman who don't have the proper work/life balance. She's a lot like the producer in Broadcast NEws - real sure of herself, very intellectual in a peculiar way, highly functional and almost pretty but somewhere along the line she just doesn't make it because she's aware of her own flaws and can't get past them.

13. If there are two people
that all on the left and the right can hate, it's Chris Matthews and Maureen Dowd. Both are absolutely irrelevant.

Dowd is snide, arrogant, and pretensous. She seems to think of herself as being above it all and a better writer than she is.

Her columns are a waste of space. BTW what is it with the lousy quality of eds at the NYT? Friedman (who hasn't been there for a while) who repeats the same two or three points in different words with pointless anecdotes, Brooks who's a complete neocon, Dowd who I already mentioned, Safire...

actually do something better in the past?

28. Yup. She got the Pulitzer for her NYT columns. Check this out:
"Dowd received the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for commentary, with the committee particularly citing her columns on the impeachment of Bill Clinton after his affair with Monica Lewinsky. Her acid wit and withering attacks on Clinton and his accusers made her a national media celebrity."

15. It doesn't matter what she thinks
The huge crowds coming to see the Kerry-Edwards campaign tell me something's happening in our country that inside-the-beltway op-ed columnists just don't get.

19. I read it on NYT tonight
and I didn't think it as bad as was presented.

She poked fun at both Kerry and and Bush...and Bush came off much worse.

I happen to like her and her writing...most of the time.

20. What gets me about Maureen Dowd is that she trivializes
everything she touches.Whether it is war, death, terror, stolen elections, the topics are immaterial to Dowd. What matters is, Is my ego served? Do I get my fifteen minutes to show what a big shot NY Times Op-Ed columnist I am.Do I get to show up all the poor suckers in the country how much better I am compared to them?My snarky comments should tell these lost souls how I despise them.

She is a blot on humanity with no redeeming social value whatsoever.

27. I want this woman's job.
Read the paper and watch TV all week, combine the news with insults, and then snark all over the New York Times twice a week. Big deal.

Sounds sort of what the Freepers do ... only they watch Fox News and listen to Rush all week, mix TOTAL FICTION with insults, and snark all over their board (and ours).
