I'm tired of the rhetoric about Democrats catering to the Hollywood crowd.

Every day, you're hearing some politician or pundit making reference about how the Democratic candidates are run by out of touch Hollywood actors.

I know I've mentioned this before, but I can think of several Hollywood characters who are holding or recently held elected political offices as Republicans, including Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarznegger, Fred Thompson, Fred Grandy, Charleton Hesston and Sonny Bono. The only Democrat I can think of is Jerry Springer.

As for professional athletes, who can be every bit as eccentric and out of touch, there's JC Watts, Steve Largent, Tom Osborne, and in a way, Mike Ditka, who seriously considered running against Barak Obama for U.S. Senate. There is also Connie Mack, Jr. and George Allen, Jr., who ran on their father's sports celebrity names. The only Democrat I can think of in this category is Bill Bradley.

If Hollywood is so damned liberal, why did Michael Moore have so much difficulty finding a company to distribute F-911?

a Rhodes scholar. Springer is really smart and was in politics BEFORE he became a celeb.

9. I live in L.A., and am totally proud of the Hollywood

bunch. They are smart, articulate, mostly well-read, and have more influence over the younger voters than any Hannity, Limbaugh, O'Reily, etc., oh, and they are very brave to speak their minds. Go, Hollywood.

7. Hollywood IS liberal

Going to newsmeat.com, there are hardly any Republicans in Hollywood. Maybe the studio heads or producers are? But actors and directors are overwhelmingly Democratic. I think Fahrenheit 9/11's troubles in finding distributors had to do more with the fact that few studios wanted to be responsible for such a potentially polarizing and controversial movie. I doubt they'd want to be branded as "That stinkin' pinko studio" by the nation's Republicans. It's probably more business than politics. But if 2004 has taught us anything, it's that controversial movies make LOADS of money, like The Passion of the Christ and Fahrenheit 9/11.

If I were the RNC, I wouldn't exactly try and badmouth Hollywood as their biggest future prospect is a product of it. I mean, the Dems have John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama as future prospects. The only thing the Republicans have is a foreigner and Jeb Bush (I heard somebody asked him if he wanted to follow in his brothers footsteps).

Bringing up sports, we should all applaud Carlos Delgado for his noble protests during this MLB season. He wasn't a loudmouth or a "oh look at me, I'm a protester!". Instead, he quietly went about by not coming out of the dugout for 7th inning singings of God Bless America. However, when he was on the field at the time, he would stay out there to not attract unwanted attention against himself or his team. What a class act.
