So what was your favorite part of Kerry's Speech?
Mine was definitely the Saudi Royal Family jab.

Or maybe it was when he mentioned how much he loved Teresa for speaking her mind.

Or when he talked about ending the backdoor draft, or getting an Attorney General who would respect the Constitution...sorry, I'm getting carried away.

1. Mine had to be
when he said that he would not declare that God was on the side of America, but like Lincoln, said that he would humbly pray that America was on the side of God...and I'm an Athiest. Impressed the shit out of me.

37. That was my favorite too... Here is Lincoln's exact quote....
"We do our best to be on God's side, not assume He is on our side, and we seek to be humble in victory."

When he called on shrub to debate the values of each party rather than resort to petty negative attack ads. Kerry offered his hand to the rabid dog, of course Bush will bite it, and will look the SOB that he is. Taking the high road!

17. Wow, so sorry
I couldn't agree with you more. Another part of Kerry's speech that I loved was when he talked about how America was one of the last civilized nations to realize that healthcare was not a privilege reserved for the wealthy, the elected, etc., but a right (although he put it much better than that).

20. Where he talked about 40, 000 new troops
Made it easy to see why the DNC was so afraid of a bunch of aging hippies waving pink ribbon and scarves.

You do realize Special Forces are next to worthless against Terrorists right?

They hunt guerrillas, seize airports, engage in assassination and non-urban recon, train foreign irregulars, and then (currently anyway) resign to work as a contractor for three times the wages.

Our armed forces could have been exclusively Green Berets, SEALS, Rangers, and DELTA - 9-11 would have still happened, embassy bombing still would have happened, USS Cole attack still would have happened....

All fluff - no policy. Policy changes re: Israel, Saudi, Pakistan all way too dangerous for a billionaire to even consider.

He still has my vote: Reporting for duty.

25. Your point is well taken.
But having a brother who just got out of the special forces (I'm technically not supposed to specify which branch, but you can probably figure it out), I know that they do serve a purpose fighting against terrorists. Since many terrorists use individualistic, guerrilla-like tactics, hunting for guerrillas is just one way that they are useful.

But you're definitely right about the need to discuss fundamental changes in foreign policy, particularly in the Middle East.

27. Well - thank your brother for me for his service.
Airborne school alone is a killer, hell, I wouldn't want to be at Ft. Benning even if I was doing nothing but shoo'n flys! To have gone that extra mile for a ranger or special forces tab shows real grit.

28. I will--I'm really proud of him
For as long as I can remember, it was all he ever wanted to do. He had it even harder than most people, though. He was homeschooled, so he had a GED, and the military wouldn't accept him until he practically begged. He wrote letters all the way to Washington. Then, a few months into school, he broke his femur during a practice parachuting exercise, and had to stop training. About six months later, while his leg was still healing, 9/11 happened, and he called my mom, telling her to pray that his leg didn't hold him back--that's a tough prayer for a mother to make.

He went, even though he hadn't officially graduated from his training. After he came back he had to go through school again twice because of his leg, and then he went to Iraq. At the time, he believed in the war, but I'm pretty sure he's changed his mind. He doesn't really like to talk about it much, but I know he had some really close calls, and one or two of his buddies died over there. His leg still hasn't healed completely, and they had to re-break it after he came back from Iraq. I'm pretty sure he'll always walk with a limp.

29. ...wow, that's a tough story.
I'm sure we all wish him the absolute best. I hope he has something to fall back on, now that it sounds like his time with the service is drawing to a close. It's stories like that, that make me think back to 9/11 and the heroes it inspired, and arguments that were best left unheard.

26. We're all in the same boat.
In conjunction with his veteran mates, it became a metaphor that went beyond the popular saying. It rang genuine. It almost had a healing feeling to it.

I just loved the phrase about being on God's side, not God being on our side. So utterly appropriate.
