new plan for California -- ricin in baby food
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=7&u=/ap/20040728/ap_on_re_us/poison_baby_food

IRVINE, Calif. - Trace amounts of the deadly poison ricin have been found in at least one jar of baby food that had been tampered with, the FBI (news - web sites) said Wednesday.

<snip>

On June 16, a man told Irvine police that as he was about to feed his son, he found a note inside a jar of baby food warning that it had been contaminated. A similar case was reported by an Irvine couple on May 31 involving the same baby food, Gerber Banana Yogurt, police said. A note was also found inside that jar.

2. Some of the time these turn out to be hoaxes
I'm sure they will be checking into the background of the person who found the "note" to see if this is real.

4. On JUNE 16th

a guy found a note in some baby food?

JUNE 16th!!!

WTF?

Why is this taking 6 weeks to hit the news cycle echo chamber?
Why is this news today?

DNC, Kerry with his swiftboat crew, Edwards speaking...
What we need is a reminder that the nation is in danger (but much
safer!) from TERRORISTS. We need some terra!

(Got to be the admin thought process)

Unbelievable. Are you sure about the date?

6. I put it in LBN too, our local TV just broke in with it
So the news is fresh, didn't notice the lag in dates! My, they wouldn't be leaking this now to interfere with um, Edwards speech?

10. I've seen Gerber baby food before, which is why I wonder here
You're supposed to push the little button on top of the lid when you buy it; if it won't stay in, you give that jar to the stockboy. And when you open the jar, it's supposed to make a pop! sound; if it doesn't, you're supposed to dump the contents of the jar in the trash, rinse it out and stick it in the pile of empties you're gonna keep nails in.

Sounds to me like someone needs to put a "how to buy this" PSA in the supermarkets.
